The math answer is

Phil Collins > Peter Gabriel

1- Abacab

2- Duke

3- The one with Mama

4- But Seriously....Oh wait, that was just Phil

5- Biko

If you are saying Collins is a better front man for Genesis than Gabriel - NO WAY

I've seen both men fronting Genesis in concert.

Hmmmm....as far as SERIOUS Genesis?

Trespass

Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Foxtrot

Nursery Cryme

Selling England By the Pound

As far as the NOT so serious stuff....

I always thought We Can't Dance was about 75% decent I liked SOME of "Genesis" and bits and pieces of Abacab.. one disc I can't seem to live without is the live one from their 1992 tour "THE LONGS!" Although I was totally bummed that they didn't do the Three Sides Live version of In the Cage which was always a fun tune!

But I DO like their older stuff a lot more.... I remember dating (ok messing around with) a babe back in the 80's who was a "HUGE GENESIS FAN" and I had a cassette of Trespass in my car (which I put in because I knew we were going out that night)...and she goes "what are we listening to?" I said "GENESIS?!?!" She had NO clue! She was a Duke, Abacab, Genesis, Invisible Touch kind of fan....We didn't last long....

Calling All Stations. Listen to it a few times. Don't think of it as a Genesis album.

In fact I would push the post Duke material up about a point. These ate good albums. WCD not so much about half of it is really ace material. Its a different musical endeavor at that point.

Oh, and this. My ticket stub from the 1978 tour. I thought I still had my Lamb tour ticket from the Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ December 1974 but I cannot find it. Damn ticket prices :rage:

From wiki:

Genesis performed their first concert at Knebworth in Hertfordshire on 24 June 1978. On 29 July 1978, the band made their second appearance at Madison Square Garden, New York. Gabriel and Genesis did an encore of "I Know What I Like" at the end of the show.

Lamb lies down and Selling England were so inspirational for me. What makes Genesis so interesting is similar to Rush, which has the heavy guitar vs keyboard era debates. Gabriel vs Phil is so interesting. But another huge prog rock guy is Hackett. After Gabriel left, they still had a couple terrific prog rock albums, Wind and Trick with Hackett. Some of the post Hackett albums are very good, Duke comes to mind, but to hear prog rock giants start to bad mouth prog genre, that was tough. Some of the Gabriel of that era, Security and Melt, are desert island discs. Edited by Gabrielgil513

nice to see a good list before the "1. duke 2. calling all stations" crowd shows up!

HAHAHAHA!!!! I don't get the greatness of "Duke." Not a fan. Now I do love "Calling All Stations" but it sure as hell isn't in my top five!

I'm weird man.

I am in love with each release from it's chronological order.

NURSERY

FOX

SELLLING

LAMB

TRICK

WIND
