Hey Doc, what are the heavily-hyped beers over there in England? What are your Budweisers or Molsons...beers that put more money into their ad campaigns than the beers themselves?

Budweiser, Grolsch, Carling, Stella Artois, Carlsberg 062802puke_prv.gif

(although Carlsberg export ain’t too bad)

trink39.gif The good Doctor speaks words of wisdom! Carly Export is fine, but all others named are rotten!! Lowenbrau, Fustenburg and Estrella Damme are very tasty though trink38.gif

Lately I've been wondering about the whole premise of this thread.

I started it by naming two beers I considered "truly outstanding". I still consider them to be so, but the truth, I have realized lately, is that I do not like to stick to one or two particular beers, but enjoy a great deal of variety. Even the best beer can get old, if that is all one drinks.

For example, lately I found that I have been enjoying the Bar Harbor Blueberry version better than the Sea Dog, as a change of pace (the Bar Harbor has a more subtle blueberry flavor, as opposed to the hammer over the head strong blueberry of the Sea Dog). I have no doubt that will change again in the future, depending on a host of factors including my mood on a particular day. And, in fact, more than either of those two, I currently like a Pumpkin spice ale -- "The Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale".

All this is a way of saying that taste, at least for me, is not something set in stone throughout eternity, but more of a transitory phenomenon. Instead of having one or two or three beers that I "always" prefer, I instead like a variety of good stuff.

Of course, I still consider some beers to be in the "outstanding" category, as opposed to others -- and it is from that pool of "outstanding" beers that I like to choose from, depending on my current whim, taste, and mood, at various times.

Yes, Yes, I'm rambling. Blame it on the Pumpkinhead Ale. wink.gif

I now positively refute my own criterion for posting in this thread. I now realize that the world is full of "truly outstanding beers", to the point where it is absurd to try to narrow it down to one or two.

Btw -- is calling people a "moron" or an "idiot" okay in all other forums other than the political one?

Lots of great suggestions I'll have to remember to try. Of course the fabled Weltenburger which is the Holy Grail of beers is first on my list. The monastery recently suffered a flood I believe. Of course the brewery was unharmed. Just more proof that drink is a gift of God. See Psalms 104. trink39.gif

I don't try as much different stuff as I used to. Getting old and set in my ways I guess, but I have yet to taste any brew better than Guinness or Sam Adams BL.

One of my favorite quotes, ever:

QUOTE
He causes the grass to grow for the livestock,
and plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth food out of the earth:
wine that makes glad the heart of man . .
