Congratulations to the Pirates' Starling Marte on winning his first Golden Glove award Tuesday night! He did some awesome fielding this year. Fingers crossed for Jung Ho Kang when Rookie of the Year is announced next week; although his mid September injury probably keeps him from being the front runner . . . .

Bryant will get ROY

Probably won't even be that close.

Congrats to Rizzo as well for getting the Heart and Hustle Award. Not the most prestigious, but awards are awards.

RNB considers it the most important award in the game, given his obsessive posting about that kind of thing during the World Series.

My guess is that we'll never hear this line of argument again.

What do you expect from a softball league, I guess...I'm just glad Ortiz didn't win one.

The only shock there is that it is his first.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Yadi is getting this award based upon his reputation and legacy more than his actual play in 2015. It wasn't that his defensive play was bad.... an aging Yadi Molina is still better than the vast majority of catchers in either league... but 2015 Molina not quite up to the Career Molina behind the plate. I don't fully buy the fact Russell Martin was named a finalist, but I am buying Jonathan Lucroy. That kid seems to be the real deal. There's talk in Cardinal Nation about Yadi getting to 10 straight. I don't see that happening. I could be wrong, but I think the voters will eventually realize what the stats are suggesting.... Yadi is aging and there is a select group of other catchers in the NL with defensive skills on par with, if not slightly better than, where Molina is at today. Doesn't change the fact Yadi already has a place in Cooperstown, though.

At this stage, Yadi's importance as a field commander can't be overstated, though. I'd expect him to stick around the front office after he retires.

To the relief of official scorers everywhere, and the chagrin of the underground medical community in greater New England, Big Papi announced today that "THIS IS MY f***ing LAST YEAR".

JAKE WINS!!!!

Well, I guess it's better than nothing.

Infinitely better than Panda, Hanley, and Porky's seasons combined.

At first I was thinking this was true using division, but after further review subtraction is more appropriate.

Tigers got their closer , hope he pans out there. We seem to get everyone on the way down.

Anyone else hot stove seems quiet so far?

Maybe some teams are having payroll remorse...

Nah, KRod is a spring chicken...at least compared to Willie Hernandez or John Hiller.

Cubs pick up John Lackey for 2 years, $32 million.

That one stings a bit in St. Louis. I know the Cardinals were hoping to keep him (but saw the writing on the wall with Lester and Epstein on the North Side). Pretty stellar move on Chicago's behalf. An upgrade and hurting your arch rival in the same move.

I'm not counting on it being that great of a deal. Asking a guy in his late 30's to produce that good of a season he had last year with the Cardinals (under 3 ERA) isn't very realistic.

But I guess he's better than blowing an astronomical 9 digit contract on a pitcher who's bound to blow out his arm soon.

Lackey was excellent last year. We will see how much gas he has left in the tank. Cubs will be fortunate if he as a good year in 2016 and a serviceable year in 2017

Greinke to the Dbacks? Seriously?

$206.5 million, so an average of $34 million plus for six years.
