The Mount Rushmore of ROCK Drumming

If the idea of a Mount Rushmore of rock drummers is that we have to stick to just four, then it is unimpeachably, in my mind:

Neil Peart

John Bonham

Mitch Mitchell

Keith Moon

Haha!! Sorry 73! I'm I'm a drumming addict! I broke all rules!!

Nicko McBrain

Tommy Aldridge

Both were drummers for the great Pat Travers!

I am a whore!!!

Tommy Aldridge was great. He also has the distinction of appearing on the cover of (Diary of a Madman) and in videos for (Whitesnake-1987) two albums upon which he didn't play.

Sorry for being a drama queen.

I'm in Tahoe alone listening to Digital Bitch.

Charlie Watts is a great fuckking rock drummer but he is also a fantastic Jazz drummer!!

Rock plus jazz equals Rocazz.

Neil can't swing.

Wish he would go back to Ludwig or Tama. Double bass.

Oh and matchstick grip. Grip it and rip it Neil!

Leave the traditional grip to Buddy Rich. RIP

Agreed! Mitch Mitchell has never gotten his due, as far as I'm concerned.

ROCK Drummers

Starr

Moon

Bonham

Peart

Starr...a perfect fit for the Beatles, but...I've never heard a drummer say he took up the drums because of him.

ETA: Is Starr the perfect pop drummer, maybe?

I include Starr and Moon because to me "Mt. Rushmore" showcases the most influential people in a profession, whether it's a president or a rock drummer. The faces carved in the rock are pioneers and influenced generations. The same can be said about Ringo and Keith. People can think they are not "good" drummers, but the fact is they both influenced ALL drummers after them.

Exactly.

Ringo Starr gets credit for influence and inspiration from the likes of Phill Collins to Mike Portnoy to Dave Grohl. That's generations of rock drummers. And it's the same for Moon, Bonham and Peart. To me, they are definitely the Mt. Rushmore of rock drumming.
