Favorite Christmas Movies

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about a list of the top 20 Christmas movies of all time done by AMC. I thought there were some bad placements on the list but I guess it's all a matter of opinion. I was a little bit shocked that the Alistair Simms Christmas Carol wasn't even on the list but "Bad Santa" made it.

This is the list from AMC:

#1 It's a Wonderful Life

#2 Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer (puppet animation)

#3 A Charlie Brown Christmas (animation)

#4 Christmas Vacation

#5 Home Alone

#6 Elf

#7 Frosty the Snowman (animation)

#8 How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated)

#9 Miracle on 34th Street

#10 A Christmas Story

#11 White Christmas

#12 A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott, 1984)

#13 The Santa Clause

#14 How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey)

#15 Holiday Inn

#16 Scrooged

#17 The Muppet Christmas Carol

#18 Christmas in Connecticut

#19 The Nightmare Before Christmas

#20 Bad Santa

Another movie I think should have been on the list was "Jack Frost" with Michael Keaton.

#4 Christmas Vacation

#10 A Christmas Story

#8 - Animated Grinch is right in there too

One not included that we watch every year: The Year Without a Santa Claus... the one with the Miser Brothers. Just awesome.

Here are my ratings for these top 20...

#1 It's a Wonderful Life

Absolute Classic. Watch this every year. 5/5

#2 Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer (puppet animation)

I like it, but the kids never got into it. I force them to watch it once in a while, 3/5

#3 A Charlie Brown Christmas (animation)

A good one, but has parts that drag on. 4/5

#4 Christmas Vacation

Spectacular from top to bottom, a great twist on the Christmas movie. 5/5

#5 Home Alone

An all time favorite. An every year must 5/5

#6 Elf

The top 3 for me are so close, Elf, Vacation and Wonderful Life can all be #1 at any time 5/5

#7 Frosty the Snowman (animation)

One of my least favorite 2/5

#8 How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated)

Love it 4.5/5

#9 Miracle on 34th Street

Very good, try and see this if we can but it's not a "must" 4/5

#10 A Christmas Story

You see this every year whether you want to or not. 4/5

#11 White Christmas

Almost too old for me, but it's still holds up well. 3.5/5

#12 A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott, 1984)

Decent, #2 of the Christmas Carols for me... I like Alastair's better though. 4/5

#13 The Santa Clause

An underrated movie, I like 1 and 2 a lot, Even 3 is better than some on the list here. 4/5

#14 How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey)

Booo, this movie didn't need a live version. 1/5

#15 Holiday Inn

Classic, but dated. 3/5

#16 Scrooged

Fine take on the Christmas Carol story. 4/5

#17 The Muppet Christmas Carol

Pretty good, Mickey's is better. 3/5

#18 Christmas in Connecticut

Never saw it N/A

#19 The Nightmare Before Christmas

Ok, but not my cup of tea 2/5

#20 Bad Santa

Couldn't watch this for very long - hated the concept 0/5

Christmas Vacation is the best Christmas classic hands down.

Then there's:

A Christmas Story

Frosty the Snowman

Harry Potter marathon (it counts!)

LotR marathon (this too!)

Then the claymations:

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Year Without A Santa Claus

Rudolph

How are the Rudolph and Charlie Brown specials movies? Charlie Brown is a half hour!

Anyhow...

In Order...

1. Miracle On 34th Street (ORIGINAL VERSION!)

2. Its A Wonderful Life

3. A Christmas Carol (Alistar Sim version is the best!)

4. Christmas Vacation

5. Elf

6. Home Alone

7. Fred Claus

8. Scrooged

9. The Polar Express

10. Christmas With The Kranks

11. Jingle All The Way

Short TV specials don't count as far as I'm concerned.

One of my favorite classic Christmas movies is The Bishops Wife, with Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven. I also like The Bells of St. Mary's and White Christmas.

If loving Die Hard is a neckbeard offense then I'll tip away m'lady.

Not a huge fan of the meme, but today I saw a thread with this gif and the title was "Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie"...

Funny, I was about to make a remark about the notable absence of Die Hard on AMC's list of the best Christmas movies. That film history teacher I had last year's gonna be pissed to see it not on the list. And I'm absolutely serious about it.
