:rfl: I love the dude. :smoke: He's playing Rush on hash and that's a great way to do it. :smoke:

His reaction at 2.32 when the lorry drives by is priceless...and that solo.

I kept waiting for one of the strings to break.

Haha, he's a killer on the uke.

To be fair, he's playing a great song and he loves it. That counts. :smoke: :hail:

It's sort of sad too.

In a way, yes. But his look, the background, the slightly odd uke all add up to a lesser form of sadness.

I don't think it's sad at all. He's clearly super into it and loves doing it; he's just...making the joke seriously.

"Presto" is a great record from start to finish! I agree about Neil's drumming! It's some of the best ever!!

"Available Light" is simply incredible. I wish it was in their set list!!! Geddy's voice nails it!!! Gives me chills!

I don't give a shit when it was recorded. It's one of their best albums EVER!!!

The guitar solo on "Chain Lightning." Really? Fuckking insane. Rumor has it they recorded the solo and then played it backwards on the record.

Backmasking guitar solos? DEVIL'S MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

BURN BABY BURN!!!

DISCO INFERNO!!!!!

Even "The Pass" is one of the band's favorite songs! "Christ what have you done?" They made one hell of an album. JMO.

Sad as in pitiful is what I meant, but I see why you would say that. :)

It's a 90s album for me, since it sounds so different than the other 80s albums.

Also, it's kind of a beginning of a new search in style, and some of its "back to basics" elements would show up in 90s music. So it was prophetic in a way.

Presto was produced by Rupert Hine, who told the band he wanted them to ditch the keyboards and go back to being a rock "Power trio". Losing most of the keys, and sticking to the shorter song format with "Lighter lyrical content",

meant the album was maybe not as focused as previous efforts, yet still evolving the Rush sound.

Will have to go back and listen to the whole album again now.

I have said it before and I say it again....

Permanent Waves is a 80s album, because it was released 1980!!!

and Presto is also a 80s album, because it was released 1989!!!

The 90s start at 1990!

And it doesn't matter that they did not play the songs from Presto live until 1990! If it do, does that mean that La Villa Strangiato is a song from 2011, since it was played live on Time Machine Tour?

Zumbi. What would we do without him? :)

How did it go? 6 or 7 good songs out of the 11 and the rest cheese and not so good?.... :)

What other albums came out the same year as Presto?

Tons and tons. I just googled it and there are so many. Madonna's "Like A Prayer" was the only one that really stood out just with a quick scan down the page.... Rush released A Show Of Hands that year too apparently.....

I asked because I don't recall anything special from memory. I don't even remember Presto. There's not one song from that album that I recall hearing on the radio. I wasn't an MTV watcher.

Presto is a nagnificent pop-rock achievment.

I wouldn't call it pop rock so much as I would call it art-pop with a slight prog twist  Edited by Geddy's Soul Patch

I think there is a difference between it being a 90s album or being a Rush 90s album. I can see an argument for being a Rush 90s album as it shows a shift into a direction that was played out in the 90s. But as far as the music goes, it, and RTB, are firmly rooted in 80s pop/rock sensibilities. By 1991, RTB (and Presto) sounded very, very different than the rock that was on the radio...it seemed that it had been a relic of a time gone by. This is largely because of production issues, and those were improved greatly on CP.

I'm going to say the following and then run and hide under a chair.

AFTK, 2112 and Hemispheres would have all done a lot better had they come out in 1968 or 1969. In my opinion. I can just see the impact all three of these albums would have had back then. We were into, some of us at least, "heavy" stuff. These albums would have fit right in.

Yes, Hemispheres does feel a little "dated" for 1978. Retroactively speaking.
