Segue Myles
CoS. My third favourite Seventies Rush album, behind AFTK and Hems.
bluefox4000
COS very very easily. My 2nd fav Rush Album. Mick
len(songs)
CoS. To me, all of the pre-AFTK albums are at least "good", but COS is the only one that makes it into "great" territory. Edited December 7, 2014 by len(songs)

EagleMoon
Seriously? This again? It's hard to take into consideration the first album since it's nothing like the ones after it. Both FBN and COS I have good and bad things about them. I think most people probably like COS because of the longer epic songs. FBN has shorter more standard type songs. I think they're both great and both quite different from each other.

Very few folks cup of tea around here or so it seems.... Edited December 7, 2014 by Narpski

It has much better songwriting and playing than FBN period. FBN has a few too many generic sounding songs, although it does have that "iconic" (credit Narpski for that) album cover going for it. Weakest song on CoS = I Think I'm Going Bald I Think I'm Going Bald > Best I Can, Making Memories, and Rivendall
circumstantial tree
Surprised to see all the Caress of Steel love. I voted for Fly By Night. I have to because it's my third favorite album.

And by epic, I mean in the mythological sense.

Well...yeah..........but just the compositions themselves regardless of the lyrical content is far more ambitious and creative than most of Fly By Night, and this includes the shorter CoS songs. Alex's guitar work is so much more varied and exotic on CoS. Edited December 7, 2014 by savagegrace26
circumstantial tree
I have a better appreciation for Caress of Steel than I used to, but to me it remains an awkward album. Necromancer is good in parts, but I can't get past the narration in the song. Take that out and the song would be a whole lot better. The screeching doesn't work on Caress of Steel. It's like he's doing it for the hell of it.

savagegrace26
The first minute or so isn't so great, but the instrumental jam stuff starting at 1:10 is freakin' awesome (especially live). I usually tune out at the slower section (or just shut it off). But 1:10 to 4:35 is excellent and is the first "real" Rush.
