Tis the season to bring up this rant again! It really bothers me how girls are shamed for dressing "slutty" and sexy on Halloween when 90% of their options in Halloween stores are sexy and slutty. Personally, I don't care if someone wants to dress sexy on Halloween, they have the liberty to do so. I mainly have a problem with all the slut-shaming that occurs. Girls get an underlying message that they should be sexually appealing but when they actually dress sexy, it's a bad thing. And don't forget that school dress codes are enforced if the school allows students to dress up, so it can be hard for girls in middle school or high school to find a school-appropriate costume. I understand that girls don't have to dress sexy for Halloween, I'm saying that we need more options. If a girl doesn't want to be sexy on Halloween, she has to put the costume together herself. I had to put my costume together myself because these were the results that I was getting:

but when you put "homemade" into the search bar, you get more appropriate results:

Oh trust me, I know that lots of dudes have no problem. It's mainly girls that shame other girls for wearing sexy costumes. I guess they want a sense of pride.

I think you should go with the zombie-like make-up, like the stuff you've posted recently in the pictures thread. That's the kind of thing that doesn't rely on being sexy. It's just really cool.

My problem with marketed costumes is how inappropriate they are for the holiday... There needs to be more creative and spooky costumes, and less generic and uninspired costumes. Dress up as an M&M, wee!

(okay, my whole family actually dressed up as M&Ms when I was in the first grade, but..)

I already have my flight attendant costume together though! :P  And someone else did the zombie makeup on me, and she was very talented.

I've never once had a difficult time trying to avoid a slutty costume. Anyone who wears a sexy costume and says "this is all I could find" is still choosing to look "sexy." I'm not bashing looking sexy, but I just think it's funny how some women go out of their way to look provocative on Halloween.

I guess it really depends on what you decide to be. And you're right, a lot of women try a bit too hard to look sexy, whether if it's for the sake of attention or confidence.

Women are generally supposed to want to be attractive to the opposite gender (works both ways of course...usually)...there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Of course some crazy Feminist would get pissed off by this statement...

A flight attendant costume would be great for handing out treats.   You answer the door with a sullen, pissed off look, charge the kid for the treat, and throw it condescendingly in their basket.

I think it's an opportunity for girls who think it would be fun and cool to "show off" a little. Halloween is one day where you can get away with that type of outfit without being called a slut.

Are the girls who bash them jealous maybe that they couldn't "pull off" that look?

I'm really surprised at how catty girls can be towards each other. Guys will bust each other's balls but get over it pretty quick.

From what I've heard, and seen of movies and TV shows, Halloween is a quite different thing in the US than it is over here in the UK. It's not really sexed up over here. I've heard it described in the US as "dress-up-as-a-slut" day...which is fine...but over here it's still mainly just ghosts, vampires, witches, zombies, mummies etc.

Women should never be called sluts no matter what she wears or how many people she sleeps with. One thing I learned from SOCN.

And I never have. Speaking hypothetically.

My costume this year. It's going to look great trick-or-treating with my two little Ninja kids. I better get some sweet ass candy for this.
