apparently lost my marbles.....

I should say so.

I was going to listen to VT as punishment but I think that would be considered cruel and unusual. I think I will listen to AFTK instead as a reminder....

Would listen to VT 100xs over rather than suffer through Madrigal.

Different strokes.

Eh, Madrigal is sort of dull, but I don't mind it. It works more as a segue between Cinderella Man and Cygnus X-1 than as a song IMO.

Bathroom break.

Number 2.

Not in particular order.

MARATHON

Prime mover (the ASOH live version... pure perfection)

Subdivisions

The Analog Kid

Red Tide

The Pass

Superconductor (yes really... I love that song)

War Paint (as you can see I'm a Presto nut(case))

Uh....excuse me...Natural Science is on his list ;)

I think Detonator may really be Neil Peart...

Afterimage

Manhattan Project

The Garden

The Wreckers

Cold Fire

Red Sector A

Double Agent

Mission

Middletown Dreams

Turn the Page

Natural Science

Chain Lightning

Marathon? Chain Lightning? Cold Fire?

Are you secretly Segue Myles?

I love love love LOVE this list!

Superconductor is fantastic if I ignore the hideous backing vocals.

I don't. Just my opinion however. Nothing from the 70's at all?....

No, I'm just an average guy from Europe. I'm in my mid-30's and been a Rush fan since 1991 when I heard Presto and A Show of Hands. I played a bit of drums and guitar in my teens... and up until that moment Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were my favorite bands. I didn't even want to discuss other bands... but ASOH CD (and that VHS version) changed absolutely EVERYTHING.

You see I've watched that VHS tape probably 2000 times. I even had to buy it three times as the tape got damaged. It's absolutely incredible and (imho) Rush at their creative and musical peak. Marathon, Spirit of Radio, Prime Mover and Manhattan Project versions in that concert absolutely blow me away. Marathon especially... in that concert they completely "nailed" it. It's a MASSIVE song. Too bad the picture quality isn't that great by today's standards.

https://www.youtube....h?v=rP58U_R3gK0

As mentioned in another thread: I didn't like Presto at first... it sounded a little bit like Journey, Van Hagar and Toto at first... the production is weird... the sound is thin and it sounds "poppy" at first. But it's not. It's probably their most "complex" album of them all. I've been through Mahavishnus, Yes, King Crimson, Zappa, etc. but Presto was one of the toughest albums to "get". It took me about 20 listens before it finally "clicked". I think it's their most under appreciated masterpiece.

As much as I love the 70's stuff, I think they made their best work between Signals and Presto. Roll the Bones was a HUGE disappointiment. Huge. Counterparts was pretty good but only Clockwork Angels resparked the fire to me. That's a great, great album. And I don't rank Moving Pictures even into my own top-5.

Here's my list of their favorite albums:

1. Presto

2. Power Windows

3. Hold Your Fire

4. Grace Under Pressure

5. Clockwork Angels

6. Signals

7. Moving Pictures

8. Counterparts

9. Permanent Waves

10.2112

What makes Rush interesting is that even the fans can have completely different opinion about their material... and how they rank Rush's material.

From the new album I love The Wreckers and Garden most. I love when they have keyboards and get that "massive sound wall" there. It's very emotional stuff... like Middletown Dreams. The 70's Rush is great... great skill, great solos, great talent... creativity... but to me the old stuff is lacking just that... emotion. Other people might see it differently.

Hehe... I couldn't describe this better.

This is the hardest question ever! I am not even gonna give it a try...

Just pick a bunch of songs no one else picked.

Zumbi could probably pick 20 songs that no else picked and it would probably be close to his actual list.

Presto is a much better album.

And despite all the hate the production and mixing gets, even that aspect of Presto is superior to CA.

Just my opinion.

Aww! Well I am glad you love it so much, but I can no longer stay interested after track three.

Only album of the millenium that I love from Rush is Vapor Trails.

Well I think Presto is a beautiful and criminally underrated album (currently rank it 3rd of all Rush albums for me) and Presto is my favorite song they've done since 1989. My favorite track from CA is The Anarchist and I'd probably rank Presto, Available Light and The Pass above that track. While CA is very good it doesn't touch Presto unless being louder, noisier, and overly dense musically somehow equates to better. Presto's crisp and clear production (specifically with the Remasters) also blows away CA's mix. Presto is also lyrically and musically more creative and imaginative. I think CA is borderline great but much less interesting than Presto overall.
