toymaker
Refreshingly different. I like the SCTV reference, too - a show I used to watch a lot in the 80s.

The Analog Grownup
I like the small bursts of kick drum towards the end, very tastefully applied.
The Analog Cub
Perhaps the first bad song the band made. Unfortunately, not the last.Red Lenses is much better than Madrigal. Much, much better. And Chemistry... And The Twilight Zone... And most of the debut. :P

Empty Mindless Spectre
I dig it. A fun departure for the boys that shows their sense of humor. Agreed. One of my favorite moments in life was when my youngest, she's 18 and in college now, but was in middle school at time, was listening to this song in the truck with me. The "Soviets are the blues" line came up and she giggled. I asked her what she was giggling about, thinking it was some boy or middle school social thing, and she said "The Soviets are the blues. The Soviets are red, but the whole Cold War thing gave us blues. Made us sad. That's funny." I was very proud of my little one there. One, I am a Rush fan. Two, I used to teach history and government. The song is quirky and even a bit stretched, but the play on "red" is a bit fun. I like the song but wouldn't exactly call it a gem. I really wish Geddy's bass solo at the end was a bit longer instead of fading out so quickly. And as stated above I've always kind of liked the lyrics as well. Certainly not Neil's best but not his worst either. I've always seen them more as Neil's frustration with misguided hatred of Russians in America as a result of the political tensions associated with the Cold War. Much along the same theme as Territories, I think Neil is trying to say that it is silly to hate or fear Russian citizens based on propaganda and political differences. savagegrace26
Great original funky song. The lyrics don't even matter with this one. They are silly but don't detract from anything. I love the vibe on this one.
Pause Rewind Replay
Definite gem, musically and lyrically. Red Lenses is Neil throwing a bit of humor at the "Red Menace" politics and how it's believers saw Commies behind every bush.

toymaker
I always thought it was about how some people respond with anger rather than sorrow - the idea that anger can be a useful thing if it is a force for change, but having "the blues" doesn't really change anything. I like the play on words, too - the allusion to rose-colored glasses. Seeing red vs. seeing everything as "rosy." g under p
Oddly I listened to this song last night for the first time in ages. I heard a friend from the Pearl Jam board died suddenly from a stroke....then cardiac arrest and she never recovered on Monday. I kept playing Afterimage repeatedly then the whole album repeatedly then I said even Hearing RL again I have great reasons why this album is my #1 RUSH album. RED LENSES is a gem

No, Rutsey would've beaten Geddy to a pulp as Alex giggled if Geddy tried to introduce those casio sounds into Rush.
