I had a really bad Rush dream last night :(

I had one last night.....It was NOT a good dream at all...And it might even make some people on this site cry. It was a very vivid and real dream....that you could swear was real life.

In my dream, Rush announced their new lineup and tour...It was going to be Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart, and a new bassist, keyboardist, and singer....Very handsome and muscular young dude with nice masculine looks, an amazing voice, and an EXTREMELY good bassist and keyboardist. You might be wondering at this point....What the hell happened to Geddy? Why is he not in Rush anymore? Why do they have a new singer/bassist/keyboardist after 41 years of being together?

Well.....in my dream, Geddy Lee was killed in a car accident a few days after Christmas in 2013...Originally, after that absolute tragedy took place, Rush was going to call it quits....but Alex decided to go on their 41st anniversary tour as a tribute to Ged...So they got this new guy in the band...

And suddenly fast forward to 2015...I go to one of their concerts at Nassau Coliseum...Musically, they sounded great, but anyone could tell that they were completely off without Ged....Alex did not do ONE funny thing the entire show. He just stood there in one spot with a sullen expression on his face and played guitar, and Neil looked as miserable and haggard as could be.....The "new guy" did a great job getting the audience involved as he jumped around, took off his shirt, and multitasked between bass and keyboards and singing effortlessly....The opening song of the second set was Afterimage as a tribute to Geddy Lee....And that's when the entire f***ing arena started to cry as a montage of Geddy Lee photographs and video vingettes played across the screen...That whole song, Alex and Neil both had waterfall-like tears flowing from their eyes...It pained me so much to see them like this. Alex and Neil looked so...completely heartbroken and empty...They were full-on going through the motions the entire show....The new guy on the other hand looked like he wanted to have fun on stage, but him too looked majorly depressed at many points during the show...Fully cognizant of the fact that even though he can sing like him and play like him perfectly....

Nothing and no one can ever replace Geddy Lee.

I woke up from that dream at 5:00AM in tears....Because I literally thought it was real. I thought that Geddy had really died :( It wasn't until I checked his Wikipedia that I knew he was alive and well...

God, that was one awful dream...I hope I never, ever, ever, have it again....

Yes, yes you can. Wikipedia is a great source for general information, but it is at the mercy of the (m)asses on the internet. To prove this point to an academic friend who swore up and down it was okay for students to use Wikipedia as a legitimate source, I once edited my alma mater's page to change the name of the mascot to something that should have easily been caught and edited... I won't say what the word was, but let's just say it started with P and rhymes with Venus.... that edit remained live for 24 days before it was changed.

So, knock yourself out... go and make Geddy a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce.... give Neil a PhD is biophysics from Cal Tech... name Alex Prime Minister of Corsica...

I blame Spaghetti for this.. Damn you spaghetti!!

It was technically my fault because of the fact that I was watching a clip on Youtube of a special about Joan Rivers before going to bed....

Wow... well, be glad it wasn't on Lynyrd Skynyrd. You don't want that scenario in your head either.

Seriously, though, that was an incredibly dark story with a lot of poignant and true things about what we really love about Geddy. He's probably the most musician of the three musicians, and his sense of balance is one that works harmonically in more ways than one. And the part about the good looks not helping the new guy one bit was important, too. I'm not an expert on dream interpretation, but I think you really understand his importance to this band which has influenced us all here. I'm just sorry that it was so vivid and upsetting. But hey, it's over now. :)

Yes. In fact, have you ever heard that "Rush is third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band"? Yeah, that came from misunderstanding an argument I made on WP, no one correcting it, the media reporting it as fact, and then WP using the media reports as a verifiable resource to keep the claim in the article. It sounds crazy, but this is more common than you would thing for things like sales statisctics. There are dozens of examples of inflated album sales regularly reported in the media merely because a fan made the change in Wikipedia, and reporters ran with it.

WP is great for getting an idea of a topic and letting you start to look at the sources of those claims. But you need to be wary of quoting it directly without examining those sources.

I know this is old but a better thought would be if they brought in a singer who could handle all the material. However, he'd have to be able to put feeling into the songs. It wouldn't be Geddy but the trade off would be some great music we finally get to hear live. Edited by Shemp

I think this thread incited a Rush segment within a dream of mine last night, lol.

So, I was standing on a high up balcony together with a friend watching from afar the Rush in Rio concert. The audience was literally rippling and pulsating with excitement physically. And then my eyes went to the stage and all 3 members of Rush were floating high above the stage via pulley cables. Geddy began lecturing the audience on the finer points of evolution and string theory. And that is where that ended :eyeroll:. I woke up going, "Well, that was interesting..."

Well that's the best laugh I've had all day! You are either a total drip or an affected attention whore.

Either way, still breastfeeding at your age will make you like this.
