You've got to hand it to Bono. Defends tax dodgers like himself & actually says tax avoidance by the mega-rich is a positive thing.

What a truly stand-up guy he really is.

Apparently, according to Rolling Stone magazine, U2 has "reinvented" the "arena show" in a triumphant return. How much do you think U2 pays Rolling Stone magazine for all the great reviews? Is it more than Springsteen?

Saw the first 2 LA nights. Great shows, and in a sense they did do some reinvention. Rather than hang the PA from the front the stage, they hung it from a rig that went all the way the length and width of the floor, so speakers faced all sections. Absolutely crystal clear sound, best I've heard in an arena ever. Also made for being very very loud. Their music may not be everyone's cup of tea here, but they are a great live band and involve the crowd more than most.

So he supports companies that dodge punitive UK taxes by setting up business in a country with more sensible tax policies. I don't see the issue. Companies using offshore loopholes is a different thing, but that's not what he's defending. Reminds me of an old observation by a U.S. politician re his unavoidably negative coverage by the press; he said that if he walked on water, the Washington Post headline would read that he can't swim. Seems true of Bono as well.

saw them in LA last night. Incredible!

You got to see them play All I Want Is You and 40, Must have been a hell of a show!

I did indeed. They were supposed to end the show with One but they changed it at the last minute and did 40 in honor of their tour manager that just passed. They also played Electric Co which was awesome.

I like the new songs well enough but wasn't blown away by the new album in general.

I thought te new songs were good live, especially Raised by Wolves, and while the walking-inside-the-screen thing is a bit hokey, Cedarwood Road is good too.

Here it is. And yes, it was everything any one of us would have hoped it to be: our favorite band, in a 500 person club, playing unadorned by visual technology and giving it their all for an hour of expected and unexpected material. At times it was a bit surreal to see U2 in this setting, so close to the crowd, playing a setlist that nodded to the very first tours where venues of this size were the norm.
