Dear Narpski,

I'm trying to make the woman I live with happy.

In general, she's quite pleased with my performance as a spouse, however I'm noticing a pattern of behavior I can't placate. Around the same time each month, and I can almost set my watch to this, she starts getting cranky, easily irritated. No matter what I do or say, it doesn't seem to help her. I've ask specifically if there's any I can do to make her feel better, but she just snaps at me, saying mean things she later regrets. I'm confused. Can you offer any advice in this area?

Avoidance if at all possible would be my best advice or if you are done procreating have her appropriate innards removed like my wife did years and years ago. Best of luck either way.....

Surgery is the answer?!? Can a plumber perform it, or is a specialist required?

I think some credentials hanging on the wall would be appropriate for this type of surgery. Someone with plumbers ass crack probably wouldn't work out so well......

Any advice about broaching the conversation topic with said wife?

Not really. My wife did it for health reasons ans she didn't want that monthly visit anymore. She was in her early 30's as I recall. I don't think she has had hot flashes either that I am aware of and she is 53 at this point. One the flip side if your wife is as hot as you say she is and she still gives you some I wouldn't temp fate at all. That kind of surgery can screw up all of that so you may want to just deal with the good and the bad at this point.... :)

Thanks dude. I don't wanna jack with the sex drive. Guess I'll have to tolerate

BTW. Just some general info for all TRFers out there. My main area of expertise is in the HVAC field. I do know quite a bit of electrical and plumbing also. If you need help or have a question about anything I would be happy to try to help in any way I can. You can use this thread to do so. It makes me feel good and useful to help as since I have not been working for quite a while I feel a bit underutilized at times and it bums me out a little. If you need to know how to build a vegetable garden to end all vegetable gardens you may need to refer to LIX for that one....

Narpski,

How do i cook Corn Dogs?

Sorry,

I couldn't resist. I will ask you any mechanical issues in this thread. Thanks Bro!! :ebert:

First you get some corn, then you get a dog. Then you put them both in a bowl and mix it up. Then throw that bowl in the oven for 1 hour at 450 degrees. Take it out, wait 5 minutes before eating and you have yourself a corndog.

Narpie, what do you think if those newfangled ductless AC systems?

I have installed some and worked on plenty. When they work they are wonderful as is with most things. They are super efficient, quiet as a church mouse and come in anywhere from a half ton for a very small space to at least 3 tons I believe. I have worked on as big as a 2 and a half ton before. They are wonderful when duct work is not possible or feasible not unlike an old school window unit would be. They also heat and cool using mostly the same theory as regular heat pumps do. Those are the positives. The negatives are they aren't as cheap to have installed as one might think. They are mostly very sensitive complex electronics and can fail easily because of that fact. I have seen them go and go for years with no issue and have seen the opposite too. Like with most electronics the Japanese made models seem to hold up better. Theoretically you could cool and heat a whole house with them and very efficiently too. Most folks just use them for additions and such. Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask more specific questions and I will do my best to answer them accurately.....

BTW in the business they are typically known as "Mini Splits"

Aiken, did you get your new heat pump or not?....

Yeah, last Thursday. I haven't been home yet. My wife loves it. That and $400 for car insurance made $5000 fly out of my bank account. I guess that's why I live frugally and save $. I know a lot of people who would have had to borrow the $ for that.

I guess it was good that we had it done because it is supposed to be 100 degrees today and tomorrow plus humidity. They're saying 105 to 110 heat index.

Just out of curiosity did you have a heat pump before or straight ac with electric heat?...

Narp,

I meant to ask you this yesterday. I have a friend who is going to retire soon. He bought some land and a small mobile home to be moved there. It's in decent shape except for the roof. Some leaks here and there. He doesn't want to spend a lot of money on it. What do you recommend? Seems to be a lot of quick fix stuff out there.

That's a tough one for me. I lived in a mobile home when I first got married 33 years ago and have working on plenty of heating and cooling systems on them and been underneath to many to count but the roof and its structure I am not well versed on. If it were me I would locate them and seal them with the rubberized, expandable products available. Actually Aiken may have some thoughts on this one since he may have dealt with this before. I have to take my wife to work right now, If I have a light bulb moment i will get back here later..... :)

AC, with electric furnace. Remember you told me that's why my light bill was up. You told me how resistance heating was awful, because the current couldn't flow.

And, I really don't know what I have, because I'm not home yet. I don't get home regular anymore, since the Aiken plant shut down.

That will be new water heater, new heat/ac, and new refrigerator. Going to get a new oven, and the energy bill will be as low as I probably can get it. Maybe I can get better windows or something to help.

The heat pump will heat differently but much more cheaply if that is what you have gotten. I hope so. Your utility bill be be way lower through the winter months if you indeed having a well working heat pump instead of only resistance heat....

The only thing I did to my roof was get up there and paint it with this white stuff that was supposed to reflect the heat. I don't think it worked

Your friend should buy a house. Nothing fits a trailer correctly. It all has to be special ordered.

There are a few tricks with heating with a heat pump when it gets unusually cold out to keep your wife warm and not run up your bill to much. We can talk about them another time. Today should be an excellent test on how the cooling is working. It is hot here today and everyone's cooling systems with be pushed to the limits...

Well,

His goal is to build a log cabin within five years,

It's just temporary. Plans on turning the mobile home in to a work shop/storge shed.

A log cabin would rule!. Are you really in Alaska? That would be so awesome to go up there.
