After only liking a few songs off this album for years, I can now finally say:

I can listen to the first 9 tracks straight through without skipping.  It took a while for The Stars Look Down and How It Is to get to me, but now I like both of them.

How It Is just speaks the honest truth.

"You can't tell yourself not to care
You can't tell yourself how to feel
That's how it is"

i like VT, have since the begnning. i, too, take it through the first nine tracks, but the ones that needed to grow on me (and thus cease being skipped) were "Peaceable Kingdom" and "Secret Touch."  love the rest and could do without the last four, tho I prefer all of them to a lot of the 80s stuff. 1022.gif

One Little Victory

I've only listened to VT a couple times, but that song really stood out to me.

Had to choose Ghost Rider. Such an erie sounding song and its all about Neil's journey since his family tragedy.

The sequence of Nocturne, Freeze, and Out of the Cradle is the best album ending of all time. The VP album builds the strongest tension, climax, and resolves better than any album I've ever heard.

On another note, One Little Victory is my least favorite song from VP.

I noticed that the only songs that have 90+ votes were the ones that were played in Rush in Rio, R30, and S&A live.

Maybe the popularity of the songs influenced Rush to play those songs, or maybe the songs are popular because Rush played them live.

So maybe it's just a matter of hearing the songs a different way.

I'm personally not interested in the VP songs that Rush plays live.

Went with ghost Rider over Peaceable Kingdom, 1 Little Victory and Earthshine.

Not an album I really like much but I keep hoping that one of these days it will catch fire with me.  Hey, Counterparts and Presto I disliked when they came out and now I like them both a lot.  If it takes 20 years like it did with Presto that's fine with me.

VT is one of my favorite albums.  I will just mention 4 favorites for now:

Peaceable Kingdom...... Current favorite.  It is such a hard driving song yet the tempo switches have almost an anesthetizing affect.

Vapor Trail........ First real favorite.  The lyrics are touching, presenting such bleak imagery.  The first time I heard the line “swept away like voices in a hurricane” it brought tears to my eyes.

How It Is....... Up and coming favorite.  It is a particularly melodic song, very well suited to Geddy’s voice.  It has almost a retro feel to it- although not at all “early Rush retro”, rather it sounds like some 60's artist that I can’t quite place.

One Little Victory...... Initial favorite, upon first hearing the album.  It was like “OhYeah! Hello Neil! Drums!” Need I say more?

Yay me!  My first post! 2.gif

Tough one! In the studio Peaceable Kingdom is my fave, but live I have to say Secret Touch just blows me away every time I hear it!

Well said Snowdog! I never really liked Secret Touch all that much until I saw them perform it live. Now I love the song. I also really like Earthshine, but Peacable Kingdom got my vote.
