Great Moments In Songs

Limelight: guitar solo

The Garden: ending (where the chorus is repeated)

La Villa Strangiato: Lerxst in Wonderland, Monsters!

Xanadu: ALL of it (especially ESL)

A Passage to Bangkok: Oriental riff and (of course) Lerxst solo

Nice batch. The way The Garden is played out is probably my fave moment of the entire CA album...the rhythm backing to the Bangkok Al solo as well.

It's cool to hear Geddy playing that 12 string on his double neck on ESL. Apart from that rhythm guitar, and the end of Xanadu, does Geddy play the 4/12 guitar on any other songs?

Instantly think of the trees. Picking guitar bit with plodding bass, solo, followed by the outro.

Sort of outshines, the rest of the song for me.

Freewill solo, Bass drums followed by the musical mayhem with the guitar solo. Heard this a thousand times, still marvel at its

genius.

Sweet miracle; geds singing (ultra high part) together with the emotion of that song. Doubt i'll perceive this sort of expression again.

Jacobs ladder. Appregio guitar bass build up; after the calm moment, really expressive.

Theres more, to be sure.

Is "For Mongo" an anagram? Who's Mongo?

It's a reference to Blazing Saddles

I have a young man who works for me who shares the same first name. It got kind of confusing for a while because people would page us by our name and when either of us answered, they would often say, "No, I meant the other one."

He finally suggested that we begin paging him as "Mongo" specifically because of this scene. It also turns out the kid shares an interest in Rush. Smart kid... same name and interests as the boss!

In all seriousness, when Alex begins to rip into the solo in The Garden.... just after the piano bridge... like...wow. I know there are some folks who don't like the song, but I think anyone with any degree of musical emotion would agree that solo is ridiculously impressive slowhand work. I know a few folks who hate the song who still give it up for the solo. Edited by WorkingAllTheTime

The one sound that plays as Broon says "...Cygnus X-1" in the intro to Book I. I don't know why but it just "works", at least to my ears.

Good old synths. :) I love the tolling of the bell in the beginning. Makes it sound really ominous.

Hands down, the musical orgasm during Witch Hunt (Part III of Fear). This is especially true on the Grace Under Pressure Live version. The way the bass riff that just f***ing EXPLODES into those big, 1980s synthesizers. It's like a thousand orgasms at once.

That's what launches Witch Hunt into the Top 10 for me. I get chills everytime.

In 'Lessons' at exactly the halfway mark there's 5 or 6 real quick high-hat notes that come out of nowhere.. it's so Rush!
