I'd have to say she is my musical goddess... she is truly an inspiration. Very empowering for women. I should start her a thread here.

I remodeled my home from ceiling to floor. You learn a lot doing that and also when to get help. I hired out the molding because I wanted it done nicer than I could and the tub plumbing. I can take a toilet out and replace it or a sink, but I hate to plumb. The hardest part was the kitchen cabinets. They had 30 years of oil based stain and 30 years of grime. It took me forever to strip them down to the bare wood which was a beautiful blonde pine. With a light shade of stain and clear coat they came out great.

You have no idea how badly I want to do this! But I want to buy a rundown, ancient old house and restore it to it's original beauty. I am in love with the HGTV show, "Rehab Addict" with the incredibly beautiful and feisty little number Nicole Curtis. She totally inspires me.

Nicole is a little bundle of hotness.... :)

I agree she is too skinny. She is for me to but there is something about her energy that kind of gets to me. Also having done much of that for a living in the past, the fantasy of "working" with her crosses my mind. Actually the coffee breaks might be interesting anyway..... :)

[Lost In Xanadu]

Had a guy come to do the electric upgrade on the house last week... one thing I do not want to mess with is the live feed coming into the house. He upgraded the box and left the drywall around the new box (in the garage) pretty beaten up. I cleaned all of that up, then ripped a couple pieces of wood down and trimmed the drywall to fit. Looks pretty good now, like a frame around a picture :)

 

Family is coming in for Easter, so we're holing off the bathroom upgrade until they are gone.

This is very unlike me, because I don't really consider myself 'handy'- but I put sheets of plywood down in the rafters above my garage over the weekend, to make an attic space. I paid somebody last week to cut the opening larger and install a retractable ladder (my garage has a 12-foot ceiling, and I didn't have a ladder large enough to get up there in the first place.

 

I had sheets of plywood cut to size, took them up there, and drilled them in- made about 400 cubic feet or so of extra storage space.

 

Then I started carrying a bunch of stuff up there to fill it, but I didn't get very far- I filled almost a third of it, so there is still a lot of room left. By this time I was getting tired, so I stopped. :)

Only good at some things around the house... Build flower beds, paint, fix the toilet, etc.... I did once lay a beautiful brick patio complete with firepit. Kind of a hammerhead with the fiddly indoor stuff. Curtain rods & s—t.

 

Funny though, I have patience for small fiddly parts in cars. Grew up in a body shop. Stripped cars for a living for awhile in a wrecking yard. Typical guy, I guess. Plays with cars.

That's actually the proper name. You don't use Duck Tape on a Duct. You use it in situations where you want a strong piece of water resistant tape. Normal Duck Tape melts and fails in use with heating ducts.

 

Also, the article starts "Duct tape or duck tape". Although "Duct Tape" should probably be removed altogether. The article also acknowleges that the original name of the tape was, indeed DUCK Tape.

 

I'm fairly adamant about this one, and the use was wholly intentional.

One more thing yesterday... I fixed my own AC. I would never have thought.

 

I opened it up and the capacitor looked funky - all ballooned out. I shut off the power, removed the capacitor (shorted it out so I didn't get a jolt) and then replaced it. My AC is working again!

Good man. I have changed hundreds if not a thousand. Very common failure and easy to fix and visually diagnose. For heat pumps it happens 95% of the time in the cooling season. Rarely in heat..... :cheers:

My husband is really good at doing almost any sort of handywork so I usually just ask him to help with things. Personally I've done some brick-laying and painting for home building/rebuilding on missions trips. Around the house I don't really do much because I have my husband heh. But a couple of years ago our neighbors had thrown out a rusty metal chair that I thought could be beautiful again so I took it from the trash pile and we cleaned it up and painted it a pretty turquoise color.

 

I'd like to do more DIY things, like I was designing and planning turning our front coat closet into a "craft room" for myself but just the tool rental alone to build the desk and shelves I wanted would have cost more than buying a few pieces. We ended up putting a bookshelf in there instead and it's now a very nicely organized coat closet.

"coat closet" into a "craft room" - holy shit, that must be some coat closet. ours holds 20 or so coats, a shelf up top for some board games and room below for our vacuum and carpet shampooer.
