Judas Priest to 'Reconnect' With 'Nostradamus'

Rob Halford says Judas Priest are working on plans to "reconnect" with their 2008 concept album "Nostradamus."

Although he stops short of confirming the band will follow-up last year's "Redeemer of Souls" with another concept record, frontman Halford hints that such a move might be on the cards.

He tells The Sick Room (via Classic Rock): "It's been about six years since 'Nostradamus' was made and as much as we love that record, and we still have some exciting things that we're working on to reconnect with that in the not-too-distant future.

"But at the end of the day it is all about new music. You're only as good as your last record. We thought it was time after 'Nostradamus' to re-establish all of the elements that make Priest what it is.

"I don't know else we have to prove other than we can still make a bloody good metal album, and that's what we've done."

Nostradamus was Priest's last album with guitarist K.K. Downing before his retirement. He was replaced by Richie Faulkner on "Redeemer of Souls."

And while Halford admits losing Downing was a blow, he has compared the move to a football team bringing in a new signing to freshen things up.

He adds: "I've always said to some extent it's like a football team or rugby team, sometimes players leave and you swap people out. The whole reason for doing that is to try and improve things and get a new spark. Richie came along at a very important point in our careers."

Judas Priest’s Rob Halford: ‘The Clock Is Ticking’ on New Album

At one point it appeared as though Judas Priest‘s career, at least touring-wise, was winding down, but as has been well documented, the addition of guitarist Richie Faulkner has rejuvenated the band and they have more drive than ever to strike while the iron is hot.

While still out supporting the well-received Redeemer of Souls album, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford revealed that the band is really motivated to work on their next album sooner than later. Speaking with Sixx Sense co-host Jenn Marino, Halford stated, “We have such an incredible reaction to Redeemer of Souls that that really motivated us to crack the whip and get on with making the next record pretty quickly. The clock is ticking, you know. We can’t afford to wait three years, or five years now, to make the record. And especially while we’re having this great, kind of vibe with the fans and just this massive Priest family love fest type of deal.”

“Who wants to go home and sit down for a year,” asks Halford. “And especially while the band is buzzing and the energy’s there creatively. We had so much stuff happening in the studio we had to put blocks on because we were on a time schedule with the label. So we do have some stuff kind of left over from Redeemer of Souls.”

Halford says that in addition to the left over material, Faulkner has been busy coming up with riffs during the band’s touring that they’ve been saving for when the time arrives to start on new music.

As for that schedule, the singer states, “We’ll be heading out for the rest of this tour ’til Christmas time, take a break, and then more than likely in the studio early of 2016 and see how quickly we can turn this around. It won’t be a rush job, because we treasure everything we do, but I think that the mindset is there to make this record efficiently and hopefully have it out there for our Priest family as soon as we can.”

Would be nice for them to have the new one out in 2016. Faulkner has really added some new life to the band and as long as the rest of them are up for it, maybe they can get in the rhythm of doing a new album every two years like a lot of other bands do.

Closest they're coming to me is either Illinois or New York. I'm sort of right in between those two. Either way, it'd be a major haul to get there.
