Bennett turned down more money from two other teams

Bennett will make $28.5 million over four years. He gets $10 million in 2014, $16 million through the first two years, and $21 million over three.

Of the total, $16 million is guaranteed. It’s unclear how much is fully guaranteed beyond the first year.

It’s an average of $7.125 million per year, less than the $8.5 million average the Vikings paid to defensive end Everson Griffen on a five-year deal. Griffen has one career start, and 17.5 career sacks, all in the last three seasons. Bennett has 23.5 sacks over the last three years.

Still, Bennett played in only 57 percent of the snaps last year. The Seahawks presumably intend to keep his workload at the same level. And his compensation likely is based on the idea that he won’t be on the field every down of every drive.

Regardless of his workload, Bennett becomes the first Seahawk to take less in order to stay in Seattle. If more do the same, the Seahawks will be well positioned to win more Super Bowls.

That's because Pete Carroll has figured out how to stagger the roid suspensions of their defensive players.

Tate is gone but we resigned Tarvaris Jackson! So that's good news.

For who?

Tavares, definitely.

But believe me, you don't want to ever see him in the game with the outcome in doubt.

Cool story...

Seattle Seahawks running back Christine Michael acted like a true champion last week, when he took 18-year-old Taylor Kirkwood to the Anahuac High School prom in Baytown, Texas.

“It was the most magical night of her life,” Kirkwood’s mother, Stacie Holmes, told People Magazine. “He was the perfect gentleman. He took her out to dinner before, posed for photos and made the night all about her.”

“I’m just here for Taylor,” 23-year-old Michael told Houston’s KPRC-TV , at Kirkwood’s home. “It’s a blessing. Like I said, she’s a beautiful kid. I’m very proud of her.”

Taylor’s mom contacted the former Texas A&M running back and asked him if he would accompany her daughter to the prom. Taylor has autism, and grappled with being born with scoliosis before recently having corrective surgery for the condition.

She obviously shone at the prom with her date – making her the real star of the night. “I think he’s cute,” she told KPRC-TV with a smile.

Sorry about this, Seahawk fans...

Former Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland has landed in another NFL front office, at least temporarily.

Ireland is working for the Seahawks as a draft consultant, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports.

Whether Ireland stays in Seattle beyond the draft remains to be seen: He and the Seahawks will discuss the possibility of a full-time job after the draft ends on May 10.

Ireland didn’t exactly cover himself in glory during the six drafts for which he was G.M. of the Dolphins, but the well-regarded Seahawks General Manager John Schneider apparently thinks Ireland has something to contribute. And Ireland surely jumped at the chance to leave behind his disappointing tenure in Miami and work for the Super Bowl champions in Seattle.

Nah, not really sorry...

Nah, not really sorry...

He'll be searching for the next Dion Jordan as we speak, a man who can become invisible during a football season...

Or doing background checks on potential wide receivers. I've heard he's got some great questions lined up...

He likes the look Marquise Lee but only if he trades up and gives up first round picks in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

In doing some research for this post, I saw this, and became violently ill.

USC All-American wide receiver Marqise Lee has visited the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and New York Jets, according to league sources.

Lee was named the Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, when he caught a career-high 118 passes for 1,712 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Lee is a projected first-round draft pick.

As a junior last season, Lee's production fell to 57 catches for 791 yards and four touchdowns as he dealt with injuries.

He's a former Fred Biletnikoff winner. The award is given to the nation's top receiver.

Lee met with the Ravens at the NFL scouting combine in February.

At the NFL scouting combine, Lee had a 38-inch vertical leap, a 10-7 broad jump and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds. He stood on those numbers at his Pro Day workout, but his top speed when 100 percent is in the 4.4 range.

Yeah they like to bandy about phrases like due diligence but the Dolphins should not be looking at receivers projected to be first round picks with virtually no O-line to speak of.

RENO, Nev. -- John E. Williams III has been a San Francisco 49ers fan since John Brodie was throwing touchdown passes at Candlestick Park in the 1970s. So he was excited about the prospects of scoring a ticket to make the trip to Seattle in January to watch the rivals battle in the NFC Championship Game.

But the Las Vegas man says in a $50 million lawsuit against the NFL that his hopes were dashed by the league and others he accuses of engaging in "economic discrimination" with an illegal ticket policy limiting credit-card sales to selected pro-Seattle markets. His lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas says it was part of an effort to keep 49ers fans away and further promote the Seattle Seahawks' boisterous home-field advantage at CenturyLink Field.

"They're always boasting up there about their 12th player and everything else," Williams told The Associated Press on Friday. "But by allowing the NFL to decide who can or cannot attend the games, you make it an unfair game. Seattle fixed it."

Williams, who works as a promoter in the entertainment industry, said that because the NFL relies heavily on public subsidies and money from taxpayers to build stadiums it should not be allowed to deny ticket sales to individuals on the basis they are "not from an area determined by the team -- or the NFL -- to be fan of that team."

"The practice of withholding the sale of tickets from the public at large and allowing only credit card holders limited to certain areas is a violation of the Federal Consumer Fraud Act and/or common law," according to the lawsuit filed April 15.

In the case of January's game, the Seahawks limited ticket sales only to credit cards with addresses in the states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta.

As a result, he said, he suffered "economic discrimination and violation of public accommodation solely" because his credit card was not issued in the restrictive states or Canada -- "which is not even part of the United States."

"This selected process is contrary to the spirit of the NFL and contrary to public accommodation," said Williams, who is seeking $10 million in punitive damages on top of $40 million in real damages.

Brian McCarthy, the NFL's vice president of communications, said the league has no comment on the lawsuit.

Officials for California-based Ticketmaster, which is now part of Live Nation Entertainment Inc., and the Seahawks did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Williams said he had made up his mind that if San Francisco beat the Carolina Panthers in a semifinal game, he was going to buy tickets to the NFC title game in Seattle for himself, his roommate, a girlfriend who lives in Canada and her daughter.

San Francisco beat Carolina 23-10, then lost at Seattle 23-17.

"I live in Las Vegas, but I'm originally from San Francisco. I've seen John Brodie back in the day, and Joe Montana. I really wanted to go up there to see the Niners," Williams said. "I think the tickets should be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, not based on who they want in the crowd."
