I'd rather listen to ANY Toto over 90's through prest era rush.

Eat me, lol

I gotta admit when Toto pops up on the station I listen to in the car I do think of Segue. I think I will think of you both from here on. Its amazing the sh*t that goes on during the day that makes me think of the place. Geez... :)

Went for a run this morning and listened to Appetite for Destruction. For some context, listen to some Giuffria, Winger, Kix and White Lion. That's what was everywhere when Appetite dropped.

yeah, you can listen to that album and tell that these guys actually met and wrote these songs. winger sounds like they were put together in a board room by record execs, and the guys playing are actually nameless, soulless androids created in a factory just to make $$.

I don't hear any evidence soul in the music of Guns n Roses. I think they sound like a beefier Cinderella.

Roseanna and Africa have "soul?" I'd rather listen to Chinese Democracy than the 12 best Toto tracks.

Dude drop it...we all know Toto are the tru masters of metal. Stop denying it.

Kudos.

I am at a point in life when I would rather listen to Toto than any Rush album.

Not stirring, I genuinely love Toto an increasingly unhealthy amount.

Toto XIV is way way better then what Rush has been spitting out.

Freakin' love that record.

Fahrenheit is so good, I couldn't care less about Rush in that moment when it plays. I mean...dude...IT IS HEAVEN! XIV is edging closer (giving it time to stand on its own). Tambu and Isolation are almost equal to Fahrenheiit in my affections.

I would also take the debut of Trillion and Strangeway's wonderful Native Sons over any Rush album as well. (Buddy, you gotsa check out Native Sons, the album is godly).

king crimson - in the court of the crimson king

You know I never consider this when making lists of great debut albums.

Why?

Because I keep forgetting this was a band at the start of their career.

Best debut ever? Very likely...good call.

here's a topic: AMAZING second albums

Second albums by bands tend to be superb while the debut mediocre (namely production wise), since the band presumably was composed of studio virgins.

Examples:

Rush vs Fly By Night

Yes vs Time and a Word

No Answer vs ELO 2

I don't think there's a set rule about it either way

The "sophomore slump"?

(I actually dig both but meh...debut is better)

I have a difficult time citing other debut albums that haven't already been mentioned here, though. I'll have to think on it awhile.

GREAT album. sadly it was their only album. the singer Keith Relf, formally of the Yardbirds" was electrocuted shortly after it's release.

  • Dogged by ill health, Relf broke up the group and went home to recuperate. Instead, he met an ironic end. The man who left the Yardbirds largely because of electric guitars died on May 14, 1976, from playing an improperly grounded electric guitar. He was only 33 years old.
