It has to have a teaspoon of mustard powder in the roux when making the béchamel cheese sauce- this I find makes the cheese more tasty. And then, put some chopped ham in it.
Next time I make it I am going to add mustard as you suggest.

Made this the other night...it was great!  I baked ours in the oven, though with the breadcrumbs on top.  Hard Rock serves theirs with sliced chicken breast on top.  I diced up chunks of chicken breast and mixed it in the mac.

I often buy Mac and Cheese already made from Safeway's Signature Cafe. One lady there even calls me "The Mac and Cheese Boy" and knows my order.

Since I lived in Northeast Ohio for almost four years my main go to macaroni and cheese brand was and still is Stouffer's. However nothing beats homemade macaroni and cheese, when I make it I usually add cayenne pepper, garlic, diced onions green bell pepper and Andouille (Cajun Sausage) I also manage to make sure to add some hot sauce for a version of mac and cheese I call Louisiana Mac and Cheese.

I'd love to make a good homemade mac and cheese.

If anyone has some tried and true recipes, please post a link or the recipe.

Had some great mac'n'cheese at the House of Blues in Chicago.  It was loaded with bacon.

Never thought about it, but adding andouille sausage sounds like a real treat!

I have also recently made some avocado mac and cheese, if that sounds intriguing.
