Why do I feel as if we've already discussed this? Actually I know that we have but I can't find the thread.

I am in therapy right now and one of the things the doctor asked me was how I was doing on birth control. I told him that with the new pill I am on I was having a terrible depressing time for the first 2-3 months but that I got over it... at least that's what I thought.

But now, looking back, I realized that two years ago when I was on it I was struggling with some major anxiety, depression, etc... Basically it felt like I was having PMS x100 every. single. day.

I know that I'm sensitive to things, if I have a hard time sleeping, usually one Motrin will knock me out for the rest of the night. If I drink alcohol all it takes is two margaritas to make the ceiling spin out of control, when I'm in the hospital for terrible pain due to cysts I ask the nurses to give me half of what they would a regular patient and then I'm out like a light.

But I'm still having severe anxiety and depression, in fact, much more than I was before I was back on the pill. I tried to look for the answers, like losing my father-in-law last year, losing my grandmother, not being where I want to in life, all of the weight gain I've experienced. But I just can't shake the feeling that it's really this little blue pill I take every day that is causing me these issues. My doctor acts a bit surprised but the more I read online the more I see that, though in the minority, other women are having these issues as well.

Anybody else?

Birth control pills play with your hormones, which play with your emotions.  I know several women who can't take them due to the severe depression they had while on them. I took them for several years but they made me gain weight ( about 15 lbs.) that I couldn't lose no matter how I exercised or adjusted my diet. They also raise your risk for stroke and heart attacks. I'd get off of them if I were you. Sounds like they're not doing you any favors.

I've gained 31 pounds in a little over a year. My depression has gotten so bad I've almost been hospitalized, my anxiety is through the roof, and yes, no matter what I do with my diet I can't lose weight, even going back to the gym has had little effect. I also have NO energy, when I was researching them one website said they deplete iron and B vitamins and are also hard on the liver.

There has to be a better way to enjoy yourself when needed and drop this misery altogether... Yes? No?

Well if you've read my other threads you know I've been put through the ringer lately. I'm trying to see what correlates and things really started getting bad again once I went back onto the pill so...

Eh don't worry about it. I talk about myself and my personal life way too much on here, that probably won't happen so much when I'm off of this blasted pill.

Sounds like you definitely need to get off of it. Don't mess with your body. Take care of yourself. It's amazing sometimes what will affect our emotions. Our bodies and minds are completely linked so whatever you put into your body has to affect your mind.

GF I had the EXACT same reaction to the pill. Was on it for years and my anxiety was going insane and my moods were changing extremely frequent to the point where it was causing tension in my relationship. I spoke to my doctor and she knows my history and suggested I get off the pill and try an IUD, something that has no hormones.

I've had the copper IUD for almost 3 years now and I've def noticed a difference.
Also everyone should get off the pill as they are making a lot of connections with the hormones from the pill and ovarian cysts. Which might explain yours.

Anyway something to think about.

I also was on the pill for a little while there but found that I hated it. I was getting really bad headaches. I went off the pill quite a while ago and have felt great.

Sometimes it can be trial and error. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to go off the pill and try another birth control option?? I'm also not a huge fan of using meds but I understand that sometimes it's necessary. Have you tried anything for your anxiety and depression? Forgive me if you've already talked about it here, I forget things almost instantly!

I used the Depo shot once every three months.   I was happy with it.   Inexpensive thru planned parenthood.

I'm no doctor, or woman, so I have no experience with birth controls like the pill. So my advice is to be taken with a grain of salt.

I can't help but worry about your mental state and if you suspect this blue pill is being the troublemaker, then perhaps you should follow your gut feeling. Trust your instinct. You have been through a lot, and to me it seems like you need peace and quiet to get in touch with yourself. I don't know if you're stressed, but my guess is that you are, and the best you can do is to slow down. Taking a pill to sleep or drinking a margarita or two is symptomatic treatment and won't take away the cause.

Of course I can't know how your day is, and what your options are but going off that pill seems like a very good idea. Dealing with your stress can decrease your anxiety level, but if it's still too much, then please reach out for help.

When Keira was born, my wife had the tubal ligation done.  They were in there anyway, so it was easy for them to do.  And after having three children, one weighing in at 3 lbs. 15 oz., and the other at 1 lbs. 11oz., we were certain that we were done.  It's nice not to ever have to worry about birth control again.  :)

My wife was fixed at least 15 years ago maybe longer. I think it may have killed some libido however. Oh well. Trade offs in life must be made on occasion..... :)

Edit: maybe the libido killing had to do with living with me and was not hormonal after all.... :)

I thought of something else, and bear with me 'cause this might get a little Hippie ;)

Do you drink tea? Mint tea is known to calm your body down and act as an inflammatory. I sometimes make me a cup of that and leave the tea in the water all the time. I find that it helps, but maybe you will need some days to get used to it. And also, anything that contains cocoa can make it difficult to sleep. I get some weird ass dreams if I have cocoa or chocolate in the evening. Best to eat that during the day.

Maybe it will help some :)
