In another thread, Steevo mentioned that we should have a Batman thread. I like it, but why stop there? Discuss all things superhero-related here. The good, bad, ugly, past, present, future...

Article on how Bale could return as Batman:

I had been fantasizing about an Avengers movie since the late 70s. I wasn't disappointed. And I'm still very surprised it delivered.

Superman 1 and 2: Hugely influential superhero films that were a lot of fun even though I was never a Superman fan.

I may be in the minority, but I think superhero films are soon to be doomed......unless they do things other than topple skycrapers and menace the throngs of onlookers.....

Avengers, Nolan's Bat films, and some of the other better superhero flicks aren't Roland Emmerich mindless pieces of shit. Some of those superhero stories are 50+ years old and have continued BECAUSE of the characters and stories NOT simply because of the pretty colors. I think the surge started with Blade in '98, carried over into X-Men 1 in 2000, then really exploded with Spider-Man 1 in 2002. 15 years of constantly successful superhero films is a long time. Besides, from a historical point of view, superhero comics especially thrived during times of war or other major social upheaval...now, it's film instead of comics. The ultimate escape act, as a superhero.

The other side that still says you're wrong is that American audiences (for years now) haven't stopped wanting summer flicks that are fun, explosive eye candy. Look at the Transformers films. They were all pieces of shit but they've all made tons...and there will be a 4th piece of shit coming next year that will make well over $500 million.

These superhero movies have AT LEAST a decade to go. Hell, we're already into 15 years of them

Principled Man is frustrated and confused because he often finds himself out and about in the middle of the night wearing a mask and satin cape and he doesn't know why. Hollywood movies about superheroes remind him of the nights he's spent skulking the dark streets wearing spandex tights and rubber gauntlet gloves and he just can't stand it anymore!

As I've discussed with JB on many occasions I want to see a Luke Cage/Shang Chi/Iron Fist film, the Black Panther, a new Blade film involving Morbius and Werewolf by Night, a proper Silver Surfer film, Dr Strange, and a new Daredevil flick.

There is a serious superhero glut, but The Avengers and Iron Man have proven it can be done and done well. Nolan's Batman is flawed, but better than anything before it. There are no signs that the trend is ending soon. Thor 2, Captain America 2, The Guardians Of The Galaxy and the SHIELD television series are setting up the next Avengers movie.

Every time they try Daredevil or Dr. Strange it sucks. The trick is to go back to the original comics from the 60s and use those stories as a base to work from. Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko created a wealth of material to draw from.

Yup to ALL of that. I think they could give Dr.Strange a try again. When was the last time they tried? That crappy 1978 tv flick or whatever year that was? And Daredevil's been 10 years already. He should get another shot too.

With the planned Superman/Batman film (which will likely make a billion bucks) to come in probably 3 years, it's almost a definite already that there will be something to follow that a few years after.

Yeah, a Heroes for Hire flick with Cage/Fist/Shang-Chi with interwoven stories ala Tarantino. Hell, a lot of his flicks have that kind of flavor already: 70s guys with afros and others skilled in martial arts. There are several Marvel character references in Reservoir Dogs. I would've loved for Tarantino to have made Heroes for Hire at his peak in the early-mid 90s. Oh well.

BEFORE the flick, it'd be fun to even have a 2 minute "fake" ad like how "Machete" was shown, previewing White Tiger. In that way, hardcore fans get him in there without overloading the Heroes for Hire movie with too many characters (like in the shitty X-MEN 3)

From what I've read, Dr. Strange is in the initial planning stages. It's going to happen, and I'm pumped about it!! :D

I'm getting a contact high from the 70s just thinking about it.

Guess who the new Batman is!!! I "dare" ya.

Okay, I couldn't guess (but I should have, in hindsight)....you know, he's really stepped it up as far as resurrecting his career with his directing, but, even though his acting has improved a lot -- when he's acting in his own films -- I can't see him following Christian Bale. Nope.

I agree with you 100% about Affleck directing. He's pretty good at it, but at acting he's not. I think he's an awful actor and I can't help but feel as bad as I think his Batman will be, his Bruce Wayne will be worse. Who knows? I've been wrong plenty of times, hopefully I will be again.
