Your Top 5 Rush Albums

These 5 as usual, the order is interchangeable though:

Hemispheres

A Farewell to Kings

Permanent Waves

Moving Pictures

2112

My top five for about a year...

My top 5 for 33 years and counting...

If somebody was to ask me what were the five GREATEST Rush albums, these five would still come up tops.

But in the moment, other albums stand out...I think every Rush album has greatness, but in the case of these five, that greatness is beyond solid: their beauty cannot be disputed.

And this is in spite of the fact that side one of Hemispheres is not a particular favourite!

These to me are the five greatest. Some real hardcore old schoolers might slide MP out and COS in. I wouldn't but some would. COS would probably be sixth, possibly seventh in my opinion.......

Six and seventh places? One would definitely be Grace Under Pressure...the other is a toss up between Caress of Steel and current favourite Counterparts (seriously, thay album is a grower!).

Well, I used to love Counterparts. However, it seems to have grown "off" of me, and my opinion of it has fallen drastically.

The opposite with me. I thought it was a largely dull and generic rock album, playable but bland...but lately I have learned to LOVE Presto, and I feel Counterparts is closest to that album, and the songs I used to skip are now emerging ad favourites. I think this one is a keeper! Growers always are...

The heck with it. Another revision. I never encountered a band that changed over the decades more than Rush has, but my favorites, that I always go back to, are the following:

Fly By Night

Caress of Steel

A Farewell To Kings

Hemispheres

Signals

First three made my top 5. I've tried so hard to understand the worship of Hemispheres...it's just not there for me though it has some really amazing moments. VT holds an emotional component to it that's so powerful. It introduced a turn for the band—for the better. Such balls. Love most of the tracks. Sweet Miracle is lovely. Peaceable Kingdom has such a cool structure. Geddy really plays like never before on that song

For me, Hemispheres has the second half of one of my favourite songs, two really good singles, and the best instrumental Rush has ever done!
