I finally got to see the season finale.  I'm glad Floki remained loyal to Ragnar.  It was a good episode.

SPOILER: sort of

Interesting that Ragnar did not speak throughout the entire final episode with the exception of the Lord's prayer. That was Travis Fimmel's idea, he asked the director to cut all his dialogue.

Well, if they could tattoo themselves all over, they could also trim their beards... with their axes!!!
All in all, if you want to reach a wider audience you have to make compromises, which means hot actresses, hunks (am I the only one to find this series had a lot more female fan service than male?), beauty, nice beds...

The archaeological record shows that the Vikings had shaving knives, scissors, and combs. They were a lot more well-groomed than you think.

"Although the popular image of the people of the Viking Age is one of wild-haired, dirty savages, this is a false perception. In reality, the Vikings took care with their personal grooming, bathing, and hairstyling.

Perhaps the most telling comment comes from the pen of English cleric John of Wallingford, prior of St. Fridswides, who complained bitterly that the Viking Age men of the Danelaw combed their hair, took a bath on Saturday, and changed their woolen garments frequently, and that they performed these un-Christian and heathen acts in an attempt to seduce high-born English women"

This seems like a show I would like. I will start watching it soon. There's been so many great TV shows on in recent years, it's hard not to be late when getting around to watching some of them. But I will certainly give this show a try.

Just started watching this show on Amazon Prime.

IT IS FANTASTIC! I can understand ALL THE DIALOGUE. The focus is not on how much sex can we put into a telly show, the violence is realistic, the acting is superb, the cinematography is lush and for once we have a great script that doesn't rely on constant swearing to move the action along!

Hope it remains as good as the first two epeisodes, and fingers crossed it gets better!

I just finished watching all the episodes and this is a great series. Everything is written so well and the visuals are superb. The series shows you don't need to have big, complicated storylines to make a great show. The main stories are simple to follow, yet they execute them to perfection which makes the show as entertaining as possible. I agree with what Segue said about how clear the dialogue is. There hasn't been a moment so far when watching were I said "I couldn't make that out, their accent is too thick". I think the show gives us a really good idea on what the life of Vikings were like. They cover everything really well, with how hard the traveling was, their raids on other villages, their religious beliefs and the rituals. The blood eagle had to be one of the nastiest ways to die if the ritual was indeed performed like the legend says. I'm looking forward to season three. I have very high hopes for this show going forward.

Ragnar, Lagertha and Floki are my favorite characters. Is it just me or is Lagertha ten times sexier when she's fighting?

I hadn't seen a minute of this until last Friday night when History channel was playing a bunch of season 1 episodes. I started at episode 4 and went all up until episode 9 at midnight. Liked it so much, I saw all of Season 2 on demand over the next 2 days.

Now I can't wait until tomorrow for a show I had knew nothing about for forever!

The opener was awesome, the only thing is that for me it's really hard to rate any single episode as they're all really just a small part of a bigger picture.

Note to self: When lining your forces up, don't divide them up on either side of a giant lake. I know they were technically 2 different armies but that was a tactical blunder and a half.

Those are all from season one.

What about favorite characters that were added later?

Mine is Ecbert, the King of Wessex.   He is really the only other character in the show that is a match for Ragnar on the  level of shrewd long term Big Picture thinking.

He obviously has good taste in women as well, being all "infatuated" with Lagertha ;)
