Well, the tourney's almost over before it began, with the juggernaut from Florida Gulf Coast University winning the Atlantic Sun championship to secure the first berth.

There are 30 more champions to gain automatic berths, and 37 at large teams. Many of these bids will be determined by next weekend but it might be fun to see next weekend who can guess the most of the teams who get at large bids.

Anyway, there will be a lot of interesting basketball played in the next 200 hours and a lot of teams that get the spotlight for the only time

all year. Here's to an enjoyable championship week, and Go Hoosiers!

Harvard and Belmont also in.

And today, Jerry Falwell's Liberty University will be in the tournament with a 15-20 record (and a certain berth in the First Four).

Let's hope that Kentucky will add to this tradition, except on the list of NIT champs.

Nah, I hope they lose in the first round. And then that the guys on this year's team (with the exception of Noel) want to stick around so that Cal has a scholarship limit issue.

But that won't happen. I think they'll leave, since they haven't been paid since December. Does Lexington have a franchise in the NBDL?

Anxiously awaiting the release of the brackets...and all the bellyaching that goes with it. Will Zags hold on to a #1 seed?

The projected brackets on ESPN have been showing a weak western bracket, with Gonzaga as #1 and Florida as #2. The opposite is true of the south, with Kansas, Duke and Michigan State.

ESPN has Indiana and Miami in the east as #1 & #2.

Florida lost the SEC tournament and Ohio State won the Big Ten tournament. The former should be consigned to a #3 and the Bucknuts should get a #2.

Agree, OSU fifth Big 10 tourney title :ebert: But really i find the Ten tournament bit worthless or the regular season title is, regular season should be the final word in the NCAA tournamemt bracket that's just me..???

Looking good for the Bucknuts. They'll be a 2 in the bracket where the Zags are #1.

Here's a rather lengthy article with an interview with Dakich on the 1984 IU-UNC tournament game.

Starting lineup for the Heels:

Brad Daugherty

Matt Doherty

Sam Perkins

Kenny Smith

Michael Jordan

IU

Uwe Blab

Marty Simmons

Mike Giomi

Steve Alford

Dan Dakich

IU had no business winning this game. In fact, if the Richmond Spiders hadn't beaten the Auburn team with Chuck Person and Charles Barkley, IU might not have even been in the game.

Of course, they went out and lost in the Elite Eight to Virginia the year after Sampson graduated.

Eamonn Brennan of ESPN on the

1. Indiana: And so we arrive at the summit: The Indiana Hoosiers are the most watchable team in the NCAA tournament.

Much of this list was difficult. This was a no-brainer. The Hoosiers' Big Ten regular-season title was remarkable not only because IU won an outright victory in the best league in the country, but because IU was successful as the fastest team in the slowest league of the past decade, a place where entertaining basketball has long since been pounded into cultural submission.

Even when they slow it down, Indiana's star power is fun to watch: Victor Oladipo is the most exciting player in the country (and it isn't even close); his missed dunk -- again: missed dunk -- against Michigan Feb. 2 was one of the most exciting I've seen all year.

Cody Zeller is the nation's best fast-breaking big man. Jordan Hulls and Christian Watford are lights-out perimeter shooters, and freshman Yogi Ferrell twists defenders into knots.

When IU's offense -- the most efficient in the country this season -- is on, when Oladipo is scrambling ballhandlers and forcing turnovers, when IU is racing out on the break and swinging the ball from side to side, when Hulls whips the extra pass to the wing, the Hoosiers are much more than a good way to kill two hours. They are the Copacabana scene in Goodfellas, or the back half of Abbey Road, or a David Foster Wallace essay. They are complex kinetic perfection. Everything fits.

The Hoosiers -- who defend at a top-20 level, but aren't nearly as fearsome as, say, Louisville or a Georgetown -- are hoping they can win a national title this way, hoping offensive brilliance is enough in 2013. Whether they're right or wrong, this has been a profoundly ambitious and idealistic project.

And so, whether Indiana is playing with your bracket's fate on the line, or in a silent Assembly Hall, shoe squeaks ringing through the concourse, above all this team deserves one thing: to be seen.

Some dipshit on ESPN just said that the Hoosiers didn't win the Big Ten championship.

Uh, yes they did. Outright. The regular season championship. 2 months of basketball, 18 games. Not three. 18.

Election guru Nate Silver's predictions for the tournament.

Not sure if IU played the winner of tomorrow's 16 seed games 200 times they'd lose 3 though.

To go along with the Hoosiers nail biter with Temple,Aaron Craft made me ride a rollar coaster of emotions from :rage: Missed free throws to  sinking the three to win it for the Bucks... To close for comfort after blowing a thirteen point lead with six minutes remaining in game.

Well at least the dream(fantasy) of all Big 10 final four still remains alive at this brief moment... :P
