March 16...I found my first ones April 3 of last year. Tons of moisture. Getting antsy!
Ever run across any of these guys out for Ginseng.
I have foraged for ginseng for a season. LOTTA work where I live. The roots just spread everywhere. Kinda fun, like morel hunting. The bug gets on you and you just start looking for it everywhere.
There is or was a show about people trespassing on private property just to steal the stuff and getting paid cash for it.
Here in East TN you take the Ginseng to Herb and Metal recycling locations. If you try to make money, be prepared to explain where you harvested and be able to point out on a map EXACTLY where you got it.
Too much trouble for me, though in general i just love being in the woods and foraging for anything tasty--including turkey and deer!
