J2112YYZ
QUOTE (Enemy Within 77 @ Jun 20 2012, 12:51 AM) Judas Priest invented metal - not Sabbath! I think it's 50/50. Sabbath no doubt invented the heavy sound that would come to be associated with the genre but Priest was the band that made it sound metallic. Who the frakk is Kate Bush? 1. Sabbath recorded a lot of very good material with Tony Martin on vocals. 2. Nirvana lowered the standard for rock music. That's why modern rock is in the sad state it is now. They influenced the next generation to be mediocre. 3. The only rap group who has ever really mattered is Public Enemy. 4. Slayer is good but not nearly as great as a lot of metal fans make them out to be. 5. Megadeth's first album really isn't that good. 6. I love Anthrax with John Bush on vocals. 7. I actually like most of Metallica's Reload album. 8. Testament is the most underrated thrash band ever. They're much better than Slayer. 9. Weird Al Yankovic rules. 10. Mike Patton (Faith No More) is one of the best vocalists of all time. Edited June 20, 2012 by J2112YYZ

rushgoober
1. The best Yes album by a wide margin is Tales From Topographic Oceans 2. The best King Crimson album by a wide margin is Lizard 3. The best singer of all time is Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins 4. Pink Floyd's VERY BEST material was pre-Dark Side, with 1966-1969 especially producing some of the best music of all time. 5. Revolver is a REALLY overrated album. It often shows up among the top 5 on best albums ever lists. I don't even rate it in the top 5 among Beatles albums. 6. The Grateful Dead are the best American band of all time. No other band even comes close, except for Jefferson Airplane. 7. Country music is by far the most vile and unlistenable genre of music in existence. I'd rather listen to rap or opera than listen to country, and that's saying something. (note: old-timey country is ok, I'm referring to contemporary stuff)

Tommy Sawyer
Time and a Word is a fantastic Yes album, as is Tormato. The Who is overrated. I care more about quality than originality and historical importance.
J2112YYZ
I know this won't sit well with many here: The Roth era of Van Halen is one of the most over hyped and overrated eras of any band ever. They had some good stuff but the love and praise they get remains a mystery to me. Especially since most of the really good stuff was on the first album and there wasn't much after that. Contemperary country is indeed shit, but listening to rap, hip hop, or pop of today instead? That's a situation... You know what I dig? Western Swing!
