capoetc
Hmmm ... this thread generated more interest than I thought it would when I posted it. Honestly, the only reason I posted it was that I was at the book store, saw the magazine, and I thought, "I wonder where they placed Moving Pictures?" It did not occur to me that no Rush album would be in the top 500 ... top 100, sure I could buy that. Top 250 ... maybe. But top 500? And, to clarify, I was not saying that others on the list don't deserve recognition. They certainly do. But if you're talking about influence on musicians, etc ... how many musicians say they were influenced by listening to the Replacements? How many say they were influenced by Rush, tried to emulate their playing styles, etc? I'm not trying to convince anyone here -- that would be preaching to the choir. I just thought it was interesting that no Rush album would make the top 500.
beherit
Pretty much every punk band since the Replacements has been influenced by the Replacements.
beherit
Although obviously Rush is more deserving.
greyfriar
I'm pretty sure if 'Rolling Stone' is going to print a list of Canadian hard rock trios from Toronto, Rush isn't in the top 20.

beherit
RS readers voted Rush as the best prog band ever. RS has given Rush a lot of coverage since their growing popularity since 2007. Also, if I remember correctly, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and Power Windows all got good reviews by the mag.

jjgittes
I agree with most of the postings that more or less are saying RS has nothing better to do than attempt to stay relevant and in the public eye. A list like this is sort of like baseball stats-people just love to talk about them and get caught up in them. It is just fun. But let's face it-RUSH never has and never will be loved by the so-called "cool" critics. I mean they would have had you think R.E.M. was the greatest single rock band ever, at least in the mid-80's. Meanwhile, I never "got" them. I don't own an album of theirs and would never pay to see them live. They are a band that because critics loved them, we were supposed to cherish them too. By the way, many years ago, a critic out here in Los Angeles got ripped by fans for saying Barry Manilow sucked while Manilow was selling millions of records and selling out shows night after night. Fans ripped the critic asking him if Manilow sucked so bad, why do people love him. Manilow shurgged it all off. Same case for RUSH, I think. You know, if some magazine or organization shit on [my friends or] someone I'd admire, I would take it personally. Why would you take it personally? That makes no sense. RS doesn't know you or owe you. Just because RS is shit and doesn't like RUSH doesn't mean they're taking a personal jab at you. Johnny, you need to start Thinking Big! Texas King
On their Top 500 list there are:- no Rush album (e.g. Moving Pictures)- no Judas Priest album- no Yes album (e.g. Close to the Edge)- no King Crimson album (e.g. ITCOTKC)- no Deep Purple album (e.g. Machine Head)- no Iron Maiden album (e.g. Number of the Beast)- no Kate Bush album (e.g. Hounds of Love) But two Green Days albums(Dookie and American Idiot) made the list. These things tell me that their list is absolutely idiotic!

Jesus of Suburbia is a masterpiece That being said, not having Moving Pictures on a top 500 list is pretty lame. But the list was made in 2012 and Rush has gained a lot more credibility with the mainstream outlets like Rolling Stone since then. They kind of became a trendy band to like, and Rolling Stone loves to try to be trendy. I would bet that it would make the list if Rolling Stone did it now.
