7-ish.  Some really good strong tunes and some not so.  More good than not and the good stuff is great.

Also contains the single worst Rush track ever and a couple other vanilla cuts.

Tai Shan isn't on T4E. confused13.gif

Gave it a 5. LIke the title track and Driven, resist is ok (better acoustically), as is Limbo, but very disjointed effort.

I remember when this album first came out I loved it (-dog years) and played it a lot in the year after.

Now it rarely gets a listen, I think that is the most telling test.

RE: Loving it to, later, not so much. Ditto for me. I loved the sound of it at first, and the idea of Neil taking a new direction drumming-wise was inspiring. The instructional video component supported my like of the album, and still love that aspect of T4E.

But as an entire album that I'll want to listen to all the way through these days, it's just not there for me.

(On the other hand, if you consider that I actually skip forward to hears Dog Years - and back to hear it again - you can pretty much discount anything I have to say on any issue biggrin.gif )

We discussed T4E recently, and this is what I posted then:

I think TFE has some of the best songs in the entire catalog, and some of the worst.

TFE, Driven, and Time & Motion are three of the most ass kicking songs that hold up against anything in my book.

Then there is Virtuality and Dog Years. Both are so damn awkward.

The rest of the CD is very listenable.

I was going to say something exactly like this, but you saved me all the trouble.

DY and Virtuality are the two most embarrassing songs from the whole Rush catalogue. But, in my book, that does not detract from an olbums overall points very much because it is easy to delete songs you don't like and the rest of the album is Rush.

Also, very cool album cover.

So, an 8.

Another 6 for this Rush album.

Time and Motion, Driven, even Half the World are all really great songs.

Limbo is their worst instrumental by far IMO.

Musically-speaking, Virtuality and Dog Years are really good but totally ruined by their lyrics (especially Virtuality).

Test for Echo is so/so, I'm not sad they haven't played it live since 1997.

Carve Away the Stone is one of Rush's absolute worst songs. I'd rather have Tai Shan on repeat for an hour than listen to it one more time. It's also probably the worst closer for any rush album (includes You Bet Your Life from RTB, which is good IMO).

I enjoy the title track, Totem, Time and Motion, Color of Right, and sometimes Virtuality.

It's pretty solid Rush to me.

Too much "filler". They obviously only wrote songs like "Limbo", "Driven" and "Half the World" in order to "fill" the album. Plus it has a very dated 1996 sound to it.

7 for me, same as Vapor Trails but for different reasons.

VT is consistently good from beginning to end (more or less), whereas T4E is spotty. But the best tracks on T4E are just so killer that they cancel out all the crappy (IMHO) tracks. Plus, the nostalgia factor is high: T4E is linked to good memories in my life -- good memories that follow a stormy period that coincides with Presto, RtB, and Counterparts.

Top Tier

Time and Motion

Virtuality

Driven

The Great

Test for Echo

Half the World

The Good

Limbo

And then there's the rest...
