RUSHHEAD666
Listening to some Tears For Fears tonight. Back in the day it was uncool to like them, especially when myself and I all of my friends were also into Rush and heavy metal. For some reason I always liked these guys. Great musicians. I really love "The Seeds Of Love." Did you drummers know that Phil Collins and Simon Phillps play drums on that record? It's a fantastic album! sullysue
Thanks, Earl. I've got Songs From the Big Chair rocking... Mother's Talk: My features form with a change in the weather Weekend We can work it out My features form with a change in the weather Weekend We can work it out When the wind blows When the mothers talk When the wind blows When the wind blows When the mothers talk When the wind blows We can work it out It's not that you're not good enough It's just that we can make you better Given that you pay the price We can keep you young and tender Following in the footsteps of a funeral pyre You were paid not listen now your house is on fire Wake me up when things get started When everything starts to happen My features form with a change in the weather Some of us horrified Others never talk about it But when the weather starts to burn Then you'll know that you're in trouble Following in the footsteps of a soldier girl It is time to put your clothes on and to face the world Don't you feel your luck is changing When everything starts to happen Put your head right next to my heart The beat of the drum is the fear of the dark My features form with a change in the weather Awesome, huh? Rendclaw
Every time I hear Head Over Heels I cannot help but sing along. I love "Everybody" just as much as the next person, but Head Over Heels I maintain was their best song. Sorry Earl, Seeds was overdone in a lot of aspects. They tried to do too much *and* stay the same. You can do one, not both.

You have a point about "The Seeds Of Love" but I can't change my mind despite it being a polished, slick production masterpiece! It almost sounds like you think this album is oxymoronic! LOL! I love the record!! I love you too!
drbirdsong
Tears For Fears were sooooooo 80s, but to this day if Everybody Wants To Rule The World comes on the radio I crank it way up... especially on a Summer's day. The albums after Sowing The Seeds Of Love always had some great tunes on them and Roland Orzabal is still one of the great pop song writers. Bastille Dave
I dont know much of their body of work but I know (and love) the hits. I think "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" is one of the greatest pop songs to come out of the 80's, and that is saying alot considering there are alot of great 80's pop songs. Babycat
I got confused by Roland Orzabal and whatsisname... Especially with that one song Everybody Wants To Rule The World. There must've been two versions of it, as I heard it was also called Everybody Wants To Run The World. Left me going like this -> for quite some time. Invisible To Telescopic Eye
All I'm familiar with are the hits, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Shout, Head Over Heels, Sowing The Seeds of Love, and Mothers Talk (vaguely). They were huge in '85 and everybody loved 'em. Though I remember them imploding around the time of the Live Aid something about 2 guys getting too much exposure and 2 guys not enough if I'm not mistaken. Their music is like a time machine for me...as soon as I hear it I'm thinking back to the 80's. EWTRTW takes me back to partying with friends and having a crush on my friends girlfriend. Shout reminds of going to the beach and my friend (the same one whos gril I had a crush on) saying, "This song sucks, it'll never be a hit!" Head over Heels while driving to school (UCONN Waterbury campus) in the winter of '86 and then STSOL here in FL working my first real job. Ah yes....That was good stuff. apetersvt
QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jan 19 2012, 10:55 PM) Back in the day it was uncool to like them, especially when myself and I all of my friends were also into Rush and heavy metal. Sorry to burst your bubble (but somebody has to do it), but they are still uncool in my book. The 80s 'soft rock' period makes my cringe. I need loud in your face guitar riffs. Don't want layered keyboard sounds. I need humbuckers turned up to 11. The whole direction of music at the time certainly got an influence on Rush. Lerxst getting the 'Flock Of Seagull' hairstyle. Good lord. Geddy playing the Steinberger (so he would be more free on stage to play keyboards). Neil with a rat-tail. I'm still trying to erase these memmories from my brain and pretend it was all just a dream. Sorry for being a negative Nancy. Rock on.

I liked new wave 80's and these guys play terrific in concert and had a lot of hits back in the day. I still crank up their music when I hear it. circumstantial tree
I don't own any of their material, although I've burned a couple of songs from Rhapsody. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is part of my high school soundtrack. "Shout" was overplayed that I got really tired of hearing it. "Sowing the Seeds of Love" is also a memorable tune for me from 1989. Part of me dislikes the obvious "Beatles" imitation, but I do love the song. "Advice for the young at heart" is one of my favorites as well and is on the "Sowing the Seeds of Love" album. Steevo
Not really a fan but "Mad World" is undeniably a great track. I have a feeling there is another song that is just as potent but can't quite remember it

1 of the 7
LOVE Tears For Fears. One of the bands I'd most like to see and never have - and they're still good. They were supposed to have played in Syracuse a number of years ago, and the show was cancelled for lack of interest. Argh, people in this town have no taste...er...don't share my taste
