perhaps further developments in the future, such as keys and drums. But where I'm bad at the three instruments above, I'm much worse at the rest.

This thread is dedicated to my solo works...

Put this all together within a few hours today..

It's no masterpiece, a lot is improv, but all the riffs and such were created today. This little EP reflects on what's going on in my life right now...

ha, don't get your hopes up. wink.gif

to critique myself:

Tracks 1 and 4 are very short, although they sound fine i consider them filler (or 1 as an intro, 4 as a transition, rather).

2 and 3 are very different, but decent tracks.

track 5 could have been much better done, imo.

Yeah, the production was a little rough, but it could have been much worse!

The songs were enjoyable. My comment would be to develop them a bit more, that'll help with length, and also to play a little tighter - the instruments were a bit loose and didn't quite snyc up with each other.

(track 3)

there's a lot to like here (especially the intro, very Loren Mazzacane/Daniel Lanois)

of primary concern is getting your recording levels in check - on this track, way too 'hot' - you've got unpleasant distortion/clipping that's easily corrected

back that gain off and watch your input levels - if you're up over '0 dB', it's probably gonna clip

the distortion wasn't very high up on the backing guitar there, i think it's more so the mic... which is fine, just need to change the distance a bit.

coming soon: Broken Window II!!!

^ yeah - distortion in this case applies to the mic/input levels being too high (not pedals/effects)

distance helps, but only if you're talking about a matter of a few inches

otherwise that solution is too low tech - you'll introduce too much white noise into the recording

better to spend the time getting the input levels dialed in, and use mic placement only for aesthetic production decisions trink39.gif

I'm very disappointed in track 4 on BW2IO:

http://i.imgur.com/vRrQt.png

some great riffs in there but needs better transitions and quality..

more soundcloud:

I:

2) http://soundcloud.com/kennethelp/the-manhopper (only worthwhile for the solo @ 0:58 - 1:29 )

3) http://soundcloud.com/kennethelp/self-help-sacremento

II:

2) http://soundcloud.com/kennethelp/picture-frame (it gets bad)

3) http://soundcloud.com/kennethelp/smokin-groovie

Listened to part 2...

Production a little better.

I thought your playing was much tighter. Loved Smokin' Groovie, as short as it was. Remorse Arrives I thought was pretty good! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Thanks.

Again, I am very disappointed in Remorse Arrives personally, it's my first approach at a prog instrumental and I feel I failed... Much too many silent gaps!

but, I guess.. It's worth checking out at the least, for:

1:20 - 1:34 (my next epic should have more sections like this)

2:12 - 3:17 (great, haunting acoustic part)

3:42 - 3:57 (2112 esque)

4:22 - 4:49 (guitar solo)

so - wow!! one third, or: 2:01 / 6:03 is worth listening to! That's a prog dud.

The main riff is boring, just an E minor and C chord... All I could pull off for making a 6 minute song in a day... But, the song contains my first written solo... Meaning, no improv whatsoever

And my next album (while I'm waiting for my electric guitar I might as well get this out of the way) acoustic/vocals:
