Apart from Rush, what have been the best / most memorable gigs you've been to?

The ten that come to mind for me are -

Horslips - Waterford 1980

Thin Lizzy / U2 - Slane Castle 1981

Queen - Dublin 1984

Marillion - Dublin 1985

Iron Maiden - London 1987

Pink Floyd - London 1987

Alabama 3 Letterkenny 1998

Gomez - Derry 2000

The Undertones - Donegal 2001

Franz Ferdinand - Derry 2004

(All in Ireland, except for London of course)

I haven't mentioned multi band festivals, where several bands play abridged sets, or I'd be here all day.

All of these were great gigs for different reasons, but this year I saw the best one of all 2.gif

Good one!

OK, just a few quickies, off the top of my cranium:

Oingo Boingo at a little industrial warehouse nightclub by my house in Orlando. Wild! Wild! Wild! Anyone crazee enough to dig that poly-rhymic band is already certifiable, but put 'em in a small room together and watch out! A real blast!

Wild sex! In the working class!

Aerosmith on the 1990 Pump tour, Orlando "O'rena". They had always been my top band growing up, but never had a chance to see 'em before they imploded the first time. Finally, when opportunity came, I seized on it. The big-lipped dude was amazing to behold, made Mick Jagger look slow. Rocked so majorly hard!

I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!! <Perry riff>

I'm BAAAAACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN!!!!

...and so on

Harry Connick, Jr. at Bob Carr Auditorium, Orlando. Did it for my wife, but dang! I liked it too. Such musicianship. Made me feel all sophisticated-like.

Blue Oyster Cult 1981 (1982?) Athens, Ohio. The giant Godzilla was a litttle Spinal Tap-pish but great show from Buck Dharma and the boys! Another early fave of my adolescence. **Edit** Needed more COWBELL!!! icon_really_happy_guy.gif **End Edit**

Other honorable mentions:

Nazareth, Yes, Prince, Van Halen, Kiss, Cheap Trick (loudest frickin' show EVER!), Santana, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, Eddie Money, Yadda Yadda!

Great topic, Mad!

I havent been to too many concerts, so I'm gonna make a tiny list of concerts I've been to.

Jethro Tull - 31 Aug 2001 (first concert ever)

Jethro Tull - 26 April 2002

King Crimson - 28 Mar 2003

The Doors (21st Century) - July 18 2003

Iron Maiden - 29 Aug 2003

Ian Anderson - 25 Sept 2003 (Got to meet him after the show)

David Bowie - 17 April 2004

Velvet Revolver - 7 June 2004

The Who - 7 Aug 2004

Deep Purple (+4 openers) - 5 Sept 2004

Yes - 17 Sept 2004

There are also 5 Rush shows stuck in there, but this isnt about them. Some highlights include the Jethro Tull shows, as they were my first ever shows. The Iron Maiden show cuz I just love em, great to see Bruce Dickenson run around the stage and on the amplifiers waving the British flag. And the David Bowie show, before I heard him, I was just a radio fan. Now I'm starting my collection of his work.

Mid '80s, Steve Morse Band with Allan Holdsworth opening. Two guitar monsters in the same show. But if that wasn't enough, during Morse's set, he gets on the mic and says, "Uh...we have a special guest here, let's bring him out for a song." Out walks Steve Howe. Everybody's jaws are on the ground. Then we watched as arguably the two best guitarists ever named Steve blow through Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam."

Schnikies! I forgot The Pretenders. Saw 'em after their second album at Ohio State U. ('81, I think). It was the original lineup, before they all started dying off. It's easy to forget how they used to just ROCK OUT! They definitely had some major punk-y credentials at that time IMO. 1022.gif

GREAT, great show! Lotsa proto-punk dudes and dudettes. tongue.gif

(Sorry for the caps, I AIN"T retyping it.) tongue.gif

Morse, Howe AND Holdsworth, together? WOW! I love all those guys!

My first concert was when I was 12 and it is a definate highlight of my life: KISS.

The real KISS with Ace, Peter, Paul and Gene back in '79. What a show.

Steve Morse (1996?) at a little club (300 people) near my house was awesome.

Eric Johnson (1991?) at a small hall of about 2500 was absolutely incredible.

Styx and April wine in 1979 (first show ever)

Ozzy w/Randy Rhodes 1982

Metallica (backing up ozzy on the ultimate sin tour) 1986?

Black Sabbath *heaven and hell tour* 1980?

Lollapalooza 94 - Smashing Pumpkins, Luscious Jackson, Guided by Voices, Flaming Lips, Breeders, The Beastie Boyz, George Clinton...This concert stands out because "Guided by Voices" and the "Breeders" are from Dayton Ohio too and the drummer I was jamming with at the time grew up with Bobby Pollard and he got us back stage passes for the whole day and I'm a huge "Smashing Pumpkins". Hanging out with all the bands was cool but I'd still much rather meet Rush anyday than all those bands put together. However it was a very cool day hanging out with total freaks all day.

The Firm (with Jimmy page) 1986

Sammy Hagar (Standing Hampton) 1983-4?

Verbena (Pretty in Pink) - 2000

Foo Fighters (Hammerstein ballroom NYC) 2003

Triumph (Alied forces) 1982?

Reo Speedwagon (Hi Infidelity) 1980

Journey - 1981

I have been to a lot of shows, for some reason these are the first ones that came to my mind.

Siouxsie and the Banshees- Tinderbox tour, Riveria Nightclub in Chicago. My first ever concert, smashed up against the stage and an overall great show.

Jesus and the Mary Chain- Darklands tour Caberet Metro, Chicago. They played very well.

Primus- Pork Soda tour, NIU DeKalb IL. Literally in a small gym and no seats. I have seen bigger gyms in an elemnetary school. Amazing show.

Primus, Public Enemy and Anthrax 1991 (? year) at UofI in Champaign IL. An odd line up but it was great.

Lollapalooza- the very first one at what is now the Tweeter Center in Chicago. Janes Addiction, Rollins Band, Body Count, Butthole Surfers, Living Colour, Siouxsie and the Banshees, NIN ( though they sucked) and more. One of the most intense shows I have ever been too. The lawn was insane.

The Black Crowes- 1995 or 96 at Aragon Ballroom, Chicago. High energy show.

Phish- Billy Breathes tour, at the now Tweeter Center in Chicago. 15th row center stage for 40 bucks! How I got the tix is unbelieveable and the show was even better.

Slipknot- 2000 at Price Cutter Field in Ozark MO. Great stage show.
