Calling All Drummers And Fans Of Simon Phillips!

Simon Phillips is still one of the most elite drummers in the world.

Neil will always be my number one but Simon is right there next to him.

I am listening to "Empty Glass" tonight. The tracks that he plays on on the album are simply mind-blowing.

Hell even Pete knew it too as Simon played on a lot of his records after "Empty Glass."

I'm really torn between "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" and "White City."

Simon kills it on "Give Blood." I remember reading Modern Drummer magazine in like 1985 or 1986 when Simon won "Best Drumming On A Song."

Simon has been around. "Sin After Sin" with Judas Priest.

"There And Back" with Jeff Beck is damn close to be his best.

Ever hear the track "Space Boogie" on that record?

Shit I think Simon was 18 years old.

"801 Live" is another Epic Album.

Stanley Clarke's "Rocks Pebbles And Sand" is another stellar release.

I was lucky enough to see Simon tour with The Who in like 1991. I had tenth row center. I was in heaven watching Simon all night long on his massive red kit!!

Anyway, this is a thread about Simon! I love his TOTO stuff too.

The man is like a chameleon in the music industry. He can do it all!

All of his solo albums are off the charts too!!

Always remember kids, "The Sea Refuses No River."

He performed on the original MSG album, which is a minor heavy rock classic, so I'll go with that.

Tony!

Great call! I love that 1980 Classic!! trink39.gif

Don't forget the great Jack Bruce album called "How's Tricks?"

Hell it's on Prog Archives Tony!

Underrated record! trink39.gif

Get the new Hiromi album. Great tunes and great drumming by Simon.

Thank you! You made my night! I just ordered the Japanese pressing of this album with a bonus dvd.

I'm glad I wrote this thread!! I also found out that Simon has a new band and they released a live album called "PSP Live."

I can never get enough of Simon!!

Neil Peart will always be my all time favorite, but Simon will always be the best drummer in the world.

I just put on "White City."

"Give Blood" is well bloody brilliant.

My favorite would be Mike Rutherford's "Smallcreep's Day" followed by 801 Live!

Hey buddy! Two great calls! I forgot about "Smallcreep's Day" and I have that cd!

I will have to dig that one out and give it a spin!

YOU ROCK!

there's a dvd/video out for the vantage point recording. live in the studio. simon plays a 5 piece kit. kind of cringe when i hear him play jazz. doesn't quite swing. i'm used to hearing guys like bill stewart and jeff tain watts swing. still good stuff though.

I have the cd and the dvd!! Yeah I guess this is more proof that most rock drummers can't swing.

Love,

This disc is infectious! I LOVE IT! trink39.gif

I just got a hold of this today. Some weekend entertainment for me. (Which means I haven't played it yet.) Also got an album by Trilok Gurtu with Simon. Trilok, of course, is an amazing drummer / percussionist who came to prominence by playing with John McLaughlin.
