Rock Of Ages

Not gonna lie, this is my guilty pleasure and a favourite of mine. I love this sort of popcorn trash!

Bad movie but I have to give it up to Cruise. Great performance by him. Easily the best thing about the movie.

It is lovably bad. I really love it, a proper guilty pleasure.

Tom Cruise is the worst thing in the film for me. Alec Baldwin is the stand out for me!

Oddly enough, it was changed to Thanksgiving weekend that year instead of December after that teaser poster premiered according to IMDB.

There's a funny recent story attached to this film.

Discarded Dan Aykroyd film footage raises alarm at Calgary landfill

CALGARY HERALD 05.30.2013

Was evidence of a murder by Hollywood star Dan Aykroyd found in a Calgary landfill?

That’s what some people thought, at least for a little while. But the truth was a little more mundane.

According to celebrity website TMZ, a worker at a Calgary landfill found some discarded film this week that showed the image of a man standing over a body. Alarmed, he alerted police.

Once homicide investigators cleaned up the dirty images, they thought the suspect looked a lot like Aykroyd.

“It resembles him, but it’s from 20-plus years ago,” said police spokeswoman Emma Poole.

She said officers started looking on the Internet for a movie that matched the murder scene. They also got in touch with the Canadian actor through his Los Angeles press agent.

Aykroyd, famous for starring in Hollywood blockbusters such as “Ghostbusters” and “The Blues Brothers,” confirmed the images were from a movie he did in 1990 called “Loose Cannons,” said Poole. In the film, Aykroyd and Gene Hackman play police officers, one with split-personality disorder, in pursuit of powerful criminals.

“It was a film not many people saw,” laughed Poole.

She said the dump employee thought he was doing the right thing by turning over the images, which were shot on 35-millimetre film and appear to have been from the original movie reel.

Aykroyd has told celebrity news site TMZ that "the movie should have been left in the landfill where it belongs."

I don't think it was that bad really... :hail:

One thing about this film is, the Fletch theme never gets old!

I love everything Fassbender, so this was a must see. It's really an actors' tour de force, but the plot is somehow... misplaced? I couldn't say. There's a scene that is totally theatre, with the two actors talking to each other for more than 20 minutes all in one take. But still, you don't get into the psychology of the character. But maybe it was the point. Anyway recommended.

Saw that when I was a 8 in theaters but haven't seen it since. Might see if it holds up later since it, as well as Fletch, will be on Showtime Anytime next month since it's supposed to be offered to non subscribers soon like HBO Go will.

This is probably the daftest film I've ever seen! Hilariously bad! A cross between The Omen, The Birds, Rosemary's Baby, Star Wars with a little Superman, Close Encounters and even Enter the Dragon (a showdown in a room full of mirrors) thrown in but obviously way worse than any of them! You've got John Huston as an Obi Wan-style alien, a little brat with super powers who calls Glenn Ford a dirty old man, Lance Henriksen as an evil basketball coach, deadly birds, especially kestrels and pigeons (the pigeon attack at the end on Lance Henriksen had me in stitches, I kept replaying it, classic! ), a crippled woman who has the womb of satan, a sinister business man who is determined to force Lance Henriksen to impregnate her, Shelly Winters overacting as a crazy nanny, Franco Nero as a kind of heavy metal Jesus and much much more including woefully out of place soundtrack music! :smoke:
