It sounds like you are talking about when he opens & closes his hands like you would if you were moving a puppets mouth?

It's called "Happy Hands". He did this at the Vegas show last summer also, I believe. I don't know the origins though.

What about when he hits the side of his head with his hand?

He has certain times when he does this.. Sometimes it's when he is being playful with Big Al.. He usually does it a couple of times during YYZ.. I think it's funny.... He does it after his little bass solo on Driven... I think it's his way of saying "My brain hurts and I'm not really sure what I'm doing up here, and I think I should be silly and goofy"....

I was watching the "A show of hands" tape yesterday and saw geddy during the spirit of the radio instead of the two hand clap he does a one hand clap, kind of the like the begining of the chicken dance.  PLease explain why.

It's a Zen thing...you know, pondering the sound of one hand clapping...Ged's just deep that way.

I always took it he wants the crowd to sing with him!

Always does it during Tom Sawyer..

It might be his way of keeping time.
