I've liked fleetwood mac since I was 13, so I've always had the weird looks from older people when I tell them that.

Holy shit, exactly the same here, I had a Fleetwood Mac obsession since I was 11!

Seconding this.  The response I've always gotten (we're talking since I was about 4) is that it's so cool that I know who (insert old band) is.
When I was real little my dad would always tell his friends that I knew about Pink Floyd, Zepplin etc.

I thought this too.

I'm turning 19 next month, and I got in to Rush about this time 5 years ago, so when I was turning 14. I've always been an Alex girl myself, and he's just getting more and more fabulous as the years go by. What a well dressed man.

Funny story: I went to the Hamilton show on Tuesday, and upon walking in to a bar for supper with my boyfriend, four middle-aged men shouted "Oh my god! A FEMALE RUSH FAN!" and started cheering loudly. It was a little embarrassing, but we do seem to be a little out numbered by our counterparts (no pun intended, I swear).

Oh well, the days go on. We love the boys just as much as anyone else. And age is never a factor when it comes to music, in my opinion.

Well, while I am currently over 30, I've been a fan since I was 14.  Not just a "casual" fan...full-on, "Rush are the F-ing Holy Trinity of Rock" type fan.  Honestly, within a week of hearing them for the first time (and knowing the name of the band...I had known songs like Tom Sawyer and Spirit of Radio for years and liked them, but never knew who did them) they were my favorite band, and that position has never been compromised.  I remember getting high-fives and a lot of "HELL YEAH's" at my first concert in 1997, when I air-guitared, air-bassed and air drummed through 2112, all without missing a lyric.  I was one of the few females there.  It didn't ever really register with me until later how relatively rare female Rush fans were.   confused13.gif  Guess it just never really mattered because I was in love with the music.

I still get a lot of high-fives, knuckle bumps and "HELL YEAH's" at concerts, because I rock out like nobody's business!!   laugh.gif

I love that there are young women who love Rush. It shows they know quality and talent. I asked my daughter's BFF once why younger women think that Geddy is so hot. Her answer: he knows how to rock a pair of tight jeans!

Now me, I'm fan since 1980 (with a lapse of a couple decades in there). I saw them on the MP Tour in 1981 and fell in love with Alex. It took only a few minutes for me to remember WHY when I saw them last August.  wub.gif

I'm signing!!

Im 32 this december and I've only been a fan bout 3 years. So far noone I've talked to about Rush at work or in my family or friends had ever heard of them. Once when I was talking about them to one of the teenagers I work with she was amazed that, despite the fact that they come 3rd in music sales after the Beatles and the rolling stones, she'd never come across them! I think it's great that there are younger ladies out there who are into them.

You're never too young to get into any band!! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

What the hell is up with people declaring that someone is too young to listen to a band!!! wtf.gif  What does it matter lol.  But yeah, in terms of the guys themselves, i'm in my thirties and the individuals I find myself attracted to always happen to be older.  It's not a prerequisite or anything lol, it just usually ends up being the case.

I'm the same way, ever since I was little I've always ended up attracted to people significantly older than me. Though of course it's not just people I'm attracted to, most of my interests are "beyond my time". But like you said, it's not a requirement, it just ends up that way. That's where I usually find quality stuff, I can hardly relate to most of my own generation at all. (I'm 27)

I KNOW I've never been to a Rush concert - believe me when I say I feel like I've wasted so much time listening to other bands! My parents first introduced me to them when I was 17 and I haven't looked back :)

Posted 31 July 2012 - 09:23 PM

I'm almost 18 and female.

My parents introduced me to Rush several months ago - now I'm a bigger fan then they are tongue.gif I basically wasted 17 years of my life listening to junk. Back when I was 12, I thought Nickelback was the best thing ever.

Good Lord...why.

I'm new - glad to be here.
