Rush-like music

circumstantial tree

Recommended Posts

While on my way to work this morning I was listening to a song by Siouxsie and the Banshees called "Shadowtime" from their 1991 CD "Superstition".

I had always considered this song to have Rushlike qualities including the sound of the music (style of guitar playing is like Alex) and the lyrics are similar to Neil's style of writing. It just makes me think it could have been a Rush song.

It inspired me to start this topic.

Are there songs out there that you think resemble Rush music, especially from bands that you wouldn't associate with Rush?

The album "SNOW" by Spock's Beard reminds me of Rush.

The band Tiles also sounds like Rush. They're pretty good. Check them out.

Zeppelin sounds like early Rush, or does early Rush sound like Zepplin?! unsure.gif

early rush sounds like zeppelin, since (i think) zeppelin came out first.

Just for kicks, here are the lyrics to "Shadowtime", the song mentioned in my opening post in this thread. Almost "peart-like"

The voice asleep, the voice has vanished

from the top of the sky to the place below

touch the surface and the mirror bends

your words resound, out of control

freeze into time now

Still inside, yet doubt survives

it all begins, beneath the skin

No-one is near, no-one will hear

your changeling song take shape

in Shadowtime

Turn your wish to a vapour, the silhouette fades

eclipse your blue eyes, and the outline remains

from the house of the moon to the stars up above

amidst the comets, first sight of love

so begins the countdown

Falling sky, a solar sigh

it all begins, beneath the skin

No-one is near, no-one will hear

your changeling song takes shape

in Shadowtime

Shadowtime --

Catching fire, taking hold

all that glisters leaves you cold

No-one is near, no-one will head

your changeling song take shape

in Shadowtime

Shadowtime --

I found a record in a second hand shop by an Australian band called Trilogy-3 of them in the group, album title "Next in line".

All the hallmarks of a rubbish Rush copy band-Taurus bass pedals;12 string guitar, but they had an excellent drummer and the singer(bassist) had a very high pitched voice but not annoyingly so.

I did buy the album thinking it would turn out to be rubbish but i was really chuffed to have something that did sound like Rush but not obviously so.Australian band too.

A British band in the early 80's called Limelight-again a three piece, bass pedals,double-necks,high vocals and another great drummer.I saw them play at a place called The talk of the Abbey in Neath(South Wales). At the time of the rising of NWOBHM. old.gif

Coheed and Cambria

Yes, the style of singing is very Geddy like (except for the random emo screams dotted around some songs)...but I think thats it really IMO.

I havent heard anything as of yet that strikes me as being rush-esque
