Rename Albums

While the names of Rush albums are absolutely amazing...a lot of the albums share their title with a song. What would you rename the album so that instead of a sharing a title with a certain song, the title shares a common theme with all songs on the album?

Here are the albums we should rename.

Rush (it is the name of the band, so rename it)

Fly By Night

2112

A Farewell To Kings

Hemispheres (debatable...technically, Cygnus X-1 Book II is subtitled Hemispheres)

Permanent Waves (the third part of Natural Science is called Permanent Waves)

Grace Under Pressure (debatable...in The Enemy Within, he says, "I'm not giving in, to security UNDER PRESSURE)

Hold Your Fire (the opening lyrics during Mission)

Presto

Roll The Bones

Counterparts (a lyric in Animate)

Test For Echo

Vapor Trails

Snakes And Arrows (a lyric in Armor And Sword)

Ondele! (debut)

Drive By Day

Embrace of Glass

3113

A Welcome to Queens

Tropics (hell, why not?)

Washable Straights

Fact Over Fiction

Keep on Firing

Ta-Da! (lame, I know)

Still The Muscles

Partners

Exam for Straight Talk

Evaporative Steps

Lizards and Spears

That's all I thought of.

Don't forget Signals (or signal) is mentioned in both Chemistry and New World Man.

The one album title I would probably change is Fly by Night, I have no idea what I would change it to, but the title has always bored me ... eh.gif

Roll The Bones should be changed to:
WARNING: This album will divide Rush fans

If we're going that direction, then Vapor Trails and Snake and Arrows and several others should be renamed that...or, at least have the cute little sticker on them. You know, like they put on albums with "explicit content?"

I know the topic is just for fun, but I think Neil/the band has done a hell of a job with album titles over the past 36 years.

There are only a few I would 'change':

Rush - Fly By Night should've been...

Rush - Anthem (1975)

> 'Fly By Night' is a fun song, but 'Anthem' is Rush's first overt call to arms - it's a mother of a song, side one, track one, and the album deserved this title

added bonus: 'Anthem' is also the name of their label, for frickin' sakes!

Rush - Caress Of Steel should've been...

Rush - Lamneth (1975)

> 'Caress Of Steel' is a great album but a silly title - 'The Fountain' is the centerpiece of the record, and shortening it to just 'Lamneth' would've made it much more ambiguous than the full song title (which I like, as it echoes the albums' 'mysterious' nature)

added bonus: 'Lamneth' is almost an exact anagram of 'Anthem' (the previous record in my renaming excercise) - what could it mean??? wink.gif

Rush - Presto should've been...

Rush - Available Light (1989)

> 'Presto' is a fun song (does this sound familiar?) but the 'deepest' cut on the record is 'Available Light' and it would've been the better title - it has multiple meanings across the rest of the albums songs ('Chain Lightning' and 'The Pass' particularly)

I would rename them like this:

Rush would be "Lerxt, Dirk, and Rutsey"

Fly by Night would be "Beneath, Between, and from Behind"

Caress of Steel, "The Necrophiliac"

2112, "Passage to Bang Cock"

Farewell to Kings, "Stairwell to Yao Ming"

Hemispheres, "La Lerxt is Strange and Macho"

Permanent Waves, "The Spirit of Fabio"

Moving Pictures, "Bitch Hunt"

Signals would be "Martin Lawrence"

Grace Under Pressure, "Piss-ant Girly Wining"

Power Windows, "Laotian Detector"

Hold Your Fire, "Eddie Murphy"

Presto, "Stoned, Don't Tell"

Roll the Bones, "You Bet Your Wife"

Counterparts, "Geddy Lee Must Build a Fortress to Defend"

Test For Echo, "Test for Taco"

Vapor Trails, "How Shit Is"

Snakes and Arrows, "Rakes and Lawnmowers"

A couple were very tough as you can tell. Signals and Hold Your Fire obviously being two of them laugh.gif

I do. I think these would've made great title tracks as opposed to their actual names.
