2016 Green Bay Packers Season: Week 3

Packers 34

Lions 27

There is no longer any doubt about Jordy Nelson. He looked GOOD! The Packer offense needed him a lot today, and he delivered. The Packers overwhelmed the Lions in the first half with a well-tuned offense. Aaron Rodgers looked as good as new, Eddie Lacy got to pound the ball a LOT, and the entire offense looked really in synch.

The Packers needed to build a big lead, as the defense was missing no fewer than FIVE starters. Lions QB Matthew Stafford and his offense threw a bunch of punches, too. They took advantage of the Packers' defensive shortcomings in the second half, and they turned a humiliating loss into an almost down-to-the wire finish.

Packer fans need not worry. With a well-needed bye week, the Packer injured can heal up and get ready for three straight home games! What's not to like about that?!

2016 Green Bay Packers Season: Week 5

Yes, Clay Matthews is still around, and he's still terrorizing opposing quarterbacks! After a much-needed bye week, the injury-riddled Packer defense came back with a solid performance against Eli Manning and the Giants. Although they were missing their top two cornerbacks (Sam Shields, Damarius Randall), the defense stymied the hyped-up passing game of Manning, Victor Cruz, and Odell Beckham Jr. They pressured and harassed Manning all game long, sacking him four times. They also continued their unbreaking defense against the run, limiting the Giants to only 43 total yards on the ground.

The Packer offense started out with all thrusters firing. Eddie Lacy, Randall Cobb, and Jordy Nelson made the Giants' defense look rather weak. A long touchdown drive in the 1st quarter thrilled the Lambeau crowd, but after that, misfires, dropped passes, and frustrating mistakes here and there killed many a drive. The Packers dominated the Giants in many ways, except on the scoreboard! A good win, but also a frustrating win, as many, many points were left on the field!

Next Up: The Dallas Cowboys - Yet another NFC East arch-enemy, whom the Packers would really like to humiliate!!

Hopefully the Packers have a better outing against the Bears Week 7, Man did they make the Cowboys look good...

The Cowboys are good.

The Packers can be good.....really good. They just have to get their injured cornerbacks healthy and on the field, and their offense has to get out of their slump. They have plenty of time to get it together.

Rodgers just doesn't look like the same old Rodgers. He always scared the shit out of me because he could beat you in so many ways. Now, he just looks off. It can't be age can it? He's only 32.

I don't think it's his age. The problem is complex. For one thing, defenses have caught up to Rodgers and his offense. He can't hit the play-action big bomb anymore (although he keeps trying.....). Defenses are playing physical man coverage, and that works quite often. It doesn't help when Rodgers keep looking downfield, rather than going for short to intermediate passes.

Many Packer fans believe that a big reason for Rodgers' struggles is that both he and Jordy Nelson barely played a down during pre-season. Rodgers' relationship with Nelson should not be underestimated. For several years, they were literally thinking with one mind; they were that connected. Today, that connection is not as strong, and it affects every other part of the passing game. Also, TE Jared Cook was going to be a big part of the offense this year. He showed a LOT of potential, but then he suffered a high ankle sprain. He may or may not be back this year.

Rodgers has to adapt. No more looking for the big bomb so often. More patience, more using RB's and FB's, and more throws to Cobb and the other WR's. He can do it......but can he do it in time for the playoffs??

Yes!! Randall Cobb and the Packer offense CAN score touchdowns!! The Packers came to life in the 2nd half Thursday night, dispatching the hapless Chicago Bears with a non-stop passing attack and solid defense. With hardly any true running backs, Aaron Rodgers relied on his arm, feet, and brain to beat da Bears' upset-minded defense.

WR Davante Adams is well on his way to silencing all his critics, as his 13-catch, 2 TD performance was a joy to watch. Add over 20 receptions by Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery, and the Packers have a new reason to be excited about their offense. Granted, they played a struggling, much-injured Bears team, but any win in which your offense does good things is a GOOD WIN.

I think Aaron Rodgers now knows how Drew Brees feels.

Aaron Rodgers knows what it's like to have losing streaks.

He knows how it feels to not make the playoffs.

He knows quite well how to make the playoffs and suffer crushing losses.

Aaron Rodgers is the least of the Packers' problems. Their injury-plagued defense is Problem #1 by far.

That's what I'm saying Brees breaks records every week, puts up 4 TDs and 400 yards but still loses because of the defense or some special teams debacle or both.

Davante Adams almost single-handedly beat the Eagles' defense tonight. Once heckled and booed by Packer fans, he has vindicated himself 100% this year.

Now 5-6, the Green & Gold are still alive, and they come home - FINALLY - for the Texans and Seahawks. If these two home games can't motivate them, nothing will!!

Surprise!! Randall Cobb did NOT get penalized for making a snow angel!! The Packers got a good win against a good defense in nasty weather to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Game Ball goes to Jordy Nelson, who fought for every ball he got (except the easy TD pass when he was wide open), and made the big plays when his team needed them the most. The Packers controlled the game with field position and defense, but two extremely long TD drives in the 2nd half were the difference makers.
