the trouble recording Hemispheres vocals

As Geddy said in the documentary and Terry Brown has talked about in interviews, the music of Hemispheres (I don't know if it was just the title song or the others minus La Villa) were played and recorded in a key that required Geddy to unexpectedly and uncomfortably sing higher than normal.

Instead of struggling to sing to the bedtracks, the easy way for Broon to have solved that dilemma would have been to slow down the music tracks a half step or even a whole step and the problem would have been solved.

I'm curious why no one thought of doing that at the time. The only thing I can think of is maybe it would've made the song just slightly too long to fit onto a record side even by slowing down a tad.
