when cover songs are better

Recommended Posts

Do you know of any cover songs that you think are better than the original?

For the moment I can think of two:

"Let's Stay Together" covered by Tina Turner (original by Al Green)

"Wild Horses" covered by the Sundays (original by The Rolling Stones)

Hell yeah! "Crossroads" by 2.gif !!! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Oh yeah Baby!

I'd say Dreams (or Dreams I'll never see) by Molly Hatchet, I love both of them (The Allman Bros Band) but I like the faster rockier version a little more.

Van Halen - Dancing in the Street, Pretty Woman

How do you feel about the tribute albums of 2.gif ?
It's 50/50 with me. RUSH is a hard act to follow.

I'm not too big on the covers of Rush tunes. Although, I have heard Skid Row cover "What You're Doing" and that was really good.

Oh, and "Summertime Blues" by Blue Cheer is the best cover version, hands down.

Personally, I think Robert Johnson's original version can't be touched.

As for the ones where the covers are better:

A Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker

Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm

Born to Be Wild by Slade

All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix

Hush - Kula Shaker

Hard to Handle - The Black Crowes

Johnny B Goode - Hendrix

Ohio - Paul Weller

Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - Stevie Ray Vaughn

Both versions are great, but I think Stevie's guitar work is even more amazing. Very bluesy. But I liked almost everything Stevie did. His remakes were often many times better than the originals.

Travelling Riverside Blues was a Robert Johnson song that was revamped by Page/Plant...lyrics pretty much same but music is totally different

Seems to happen to Mr J a lot
