And oh MOST girls that like cool thing like rush... A guy introduced it to them. So you can introduce a girl to rush!

huh.gif

Funny...no one "introduced" me to Rush. I heard them on the radio and was hooked.

Same here. No boy introduced me to Rush.

I distinctly remember falling in love with the "keyboard" part of TSOR because it sounded so kick ass. I told my then boyfriend about it who was a Rush fan and quickly corrected me saying that the awesome "keyboard" part was actually the guitarist... and then my love for Alex was born. Of course, it didn't hurt that he is the sexiest man I've ever laid eyes on.

I said Most, not all biggrin.gif. and I made the same mistake when I first heard the song.

I heard Rush on the radio as well, and I introduced my man to Rush and now he likes em almost as much as I do. cool.gif

Not liking Rush is a deal breaker? You might want to rethink that one. yes.gif

Well, I have to say that if my husband didn't like Rush when we met, then we probably wouldn't have gotten very far in our relationship. I mean, I spend a LOT of money traveling to Rush concerts and, if he didn't like Rush, then it would be impossible for me to do that. He doesn't always go with me, but I have his blessing (of course, as long as the bills are paid, etc...).

Being attached to a person who doesn't appreciate or support something that you love and care about makes for a pretty miserable life. My husband and I wouldn't have gotten much past "hello" if he hadn't liked Rush. Shallow? Perhaps, but that's just me. Rush is one of the few things in life that I truly LOVE and can completely enjoy all the time! They mean the world to me.

Besides, this kid is WAY TO STINKING YOUNG to be thinking about marriage! Get out and live life!

tongue.gif tongue.gif

I actually dated a girl for 2 years that saw my band exactly 0 times, and we played some cool bars that she might normally be at but it was always "well, i'm going here.." (no my band is not totally crappy either).

confused13.gif

If the person doesn't even make the effort to try and like something you care about, lose them...it's undoubtedly indicative of larger problems you will have. It's just about the effort and spending time watching the other person enjoying themselves that should bring you some joy. IMO.

My husband is in a band, and I think I have only missed one gig they have played and that was because I couldn't get the night off of work. And, to be completely honest, I am not very wild about their music. They are all very talented musicians, no doubt, but the stuff they do just doesn't connect with me. confused13.gif But, their band is booked for a European tour starting in the spring...so, me being supportive and understanding has paid off! 1022.gif

Here's the thing: you have to have someone in your life who is going to support you and understand your loves and wants and needs. Me, I NEED to see Rush when they are touring. It's never a question of "if" we are going to see Rush during a tour, it is a matter of which show (or "shows") we are going to and how many tickets we need to buy (family, friends). This would be pretty difficult if the person you are married to hated the band, or at the VERY least, didn't understand your love for them.

I only saw 4 concerts this last tour, but given my geographical location, I had to travel significant distances for all of them (I think the shortest distance this tour was approx. 500 miles round trip by car). That takes some coin, and that takes time away from the family. Husband and son only went to one show with me this time around, then I went to the other three by myself. Lots of patience and understanding is what it took, and I just don't think I would have gotten it if my husband didn't like Rush as well. He is NOWHERE NEAR the fan that I am, but he understands. wub.gif

Sorry all you very mature and reasonable people but I kinda agree with mr.playzbass. After 2 husbands, other loves and lovers I personally do not want to be with any guy who doesn't like Rush. Now he doesn't have to idolize them the way I do but dammit he's gotta like 'em enuf to let me play them a lot.

I suggest you keep looking for a rush chik via these forums, or joining a tribute band, or going to concerts when you can afford to.

The one caveat is that you will find that there is other music out there, and hopefully it will thrill you almost as much as Rush does.

Oh yeah...about marriage as a teenager. Been there and done that. Lost the t-shirt long ago. Would not recommend it but despite being way long in the tooth, I remember the feelings.

Just make sure, above all, to have loads of fun.

When it crosses the line into "no, you're not listening to that band when I'm in the car" or worse: "no, I hate Rush and you're not going to the concert because I don't want to go and you aren't going to a concert without me", then there are problems.

that's exactly how it is.

the music is really important to me. If she liked rock and roll in general, preferably classic rock, that would be totally fine, but she makes me listen to lady Gaga in the car, and it's infuriating.

Ahh, to be young, naive, and in love...

Sometimes you have to concede in order to make things work. If the relationship is all about either of you, it most likely won't last.

If the music is really the only thing that's bugging you about the relationship, that's small potatoes. At least you didn't have to escort your wife and girlfriends to a George Michael concert because they were afraid of being hit on... banghead.gif

I would suspect that the men (who weren't with their ladies) at a George Michael concert would be more interested in you instead of your ladies.

One of my female colleagues who is a math professor like me is a big Rush fan like me. Her husband, whom I've gotten to know over the years, is good guy but doesn't really care for music at all. They have a great marraige. For example, they love going to Las Vegas like me so he gets excited when Rush will be there so she will want to go. She, her sister, and I go to the show together and he hangs out in the casino with her sister's husband who doesn't care for Rush either. She doesn't mind at all that he doesn't like Rush and she is glad that he doesn't go to the shows so she can fantasize about Geddy without feeling guilty. We also attend shows in the Texas region and her and I went to Red Rocks. He didn't mind at all (we had separate rooms).

what if she was super religious??

Been there, done that. We're still together after 18+ years and she's not as religious as she once was. Guess all the debates between us had something to do with it. Not to mention the pastor was afraid we'd be divorced in "a few short years".

See? Women CAN be trained. 2.gif

bah!

I think you're lucky though; some couples can't get past political/religious views. trink39.gif

Mr. Iluvgeddy5 is one lucky man.

I've been going out with my girlfriend of right now for 13 months, but she doesn't like Rush, and that's kind of a deal breaker in the marriage field (only here could anyone understand that statement  biggrin.gif )

I am 17 (will be Eighteen on 9/6/10)

Why is it so hard to find a girl my age like this:

Favorite band: Rush (obviously)
Religious views: doesn't really matter, preferably atheist or at least skeptical.
Looks: aren't all that important but obviously plays a factor, I like red heads.
Movies: comedies mostly, or Rush videos
Likes computers

With music being such a MASSIVE part of my life (taking up much of my day), a girl that doesn't like Rush is probably one of the worst things.

Now my question to you ladies, am I setting my standards way too high and being unrealistic or does a woman like this exist?

hm.....

well idk what to tell ya, girls at my school dont like rush either,

( thats ok with me though, because its like my own to love ^-^ teehee)

i had a b/f who said he liked them, but it was only the over played big hits. B/ god damn that irritates me when people are all like OMG YEA I LOVE RUSHH! Neil Peart man!

me - laugh.gif really??! what your favorite song??!

them- tom sawyer!

me -oh well what else?

them- i dont know any of their other songs

me- BL oh.

so yeaa im kinda in your postion, trying to find someone with good music taste. (because todays music is horrible and i hate rap. no.gif

i looovee prog/classic rock. yes.gif )

hopefully you will find a girl you're looking for

I don't think I've ever met a woman who liked Rush (or anything I liked for that matter) maybe someday...

If TRF is good for anything it's for giving proof that we actually do exist. yes.gif

It's nice, and necessary, to maintain interests independent of your SO's.

I can not express it enough how important this is.

So, say you find The Woman in your life who loves Rush. Then you guys fight over other important stuff (finances, religion [what if she was super religious??], general beliefs) and you break up. Every time you hear Rush, you are going to think of her. Trust me.

I'm quite happy my fiance is not into Rush like I am (though he likes them). It's my thing, always has been and I like it that way. If he loved the band, that'd be great, but it's not necessary by any means. And I'd be missing out on a helluva great man if I broke the deal over a band.

I took my wife to see Rush for the first time for T4E.

Payback was I had to go see Celine Dion.

That was the end of that...
