Jag2112
My attempt at a new thread... What is your favorite verse from any Rush song? I've found that many of the more obscure tracks have some stellar lyrics behind them. One of my favorite verses comes from Everyday Glory. "If the future's looking dark We're the ones who have to shine If there's no one in control We're the ones who draw the line Though we live in trying times -- We're the ones who have to try Though we know that time has wings -- We're the ones who have to fly" Any others? Come on, you know you have a fav... -John
sfuentes
Best I Can from Fly By Night. You can tell me that I've got no class Look around, you'll see who's laughin' last Don't give me speeches 'cause they're oh so droll Leave me alone, let me rock and roll. Tom Sawyer
And if the music stops There's only the sound of the rain All the hope and glory All the sacrifice in vain (And) If love remains Though everything is lost We will pay the price But we will not count the cost
Cato76
For me it has to be: "Every soul a battlefield. Every soul a battlefield." Taken from Cygnus X-1 Book Two.

Arndrake
I have a lot, but one that kind of expresses the type of person I am and the kind of relationships I have had is: Closed for my protection Open to your scorn Between these two directions My heart is sometimes torn I lie awake with my secrets Spinning around my head Something that somehow escaped me Something you shouldn't have said I was looking out the window I should have looked at your face instead. I've contemplated using that one in a sig line.
Ghost of a Rider
And my favorite is: "You can do a lot in a lifetime If you don't burn out too fast. invisibleairwaves
It isn't my absolute favorite, but I love the verse from Red Barchetta: Well-weathered leather Hot metal and oil The scent of country air Sunlight on chrome The blur of the landscape Every nerve aware I just love the imagery in that song! Huck
One of mine is.... One likes to believe in the freedom of music But glittering prizes and endless compromises Shatter the illusion of integrity Yeah! Not for our boys though I love the way Geddy says yeah

Moonraker
Favorite verse on a Rush song...... there are actually 2 that stick in my mind more then any other verse they have done, and I cannot and will not decide which. To you - is it movement or is it action? It is contact or just reaction? And you - revolution or just resistance? Is it living, or just existence? Yeah, you - it takes a little more persistence To get up and go the distance --- Too many hands on my time Too many feelings - Too many things on my mind When I leave I don't know What I'm hoping to find When I leave I don't know What I'm leaving behind... Slacker
For me this is the never ending verse in my head! What happened to our innocence- Did it go out of style? Along with our naivete'- No longer a child Different eyes see different things Different hearts beat on different strings But there are times For you and me When all such things agree... New World Kid
truth is afterall a moving target, hairs to split, and pieces that don't fit, how can anybody be elightened, truth is afterall so poorly lit ---or---- each of us, a cell of awareness, imperfect, and incomplete, genetic blends, with uncertain ends, on a fortune hunt thats far to fleet
physics23
Wow, it's so cool to see how we each admire such a veriety of Rush's material. The "Red Barchetta" passage invisibleairwaves cited, definitely a masterpiece. And Jag2112's "Everyday Glory," definitely one of my favorites too. sfuentes, I have to say your "Best I Can" selection is certainly... ineteresting! All your choices are awesome, and depending on my mood on a given day, there's bound to be one Rush song that speaks directly to me. For my own two cents, though, I'll quote Rush's "Resist": You can surrender Without a prayer But never really pray Pray without surrender You can fight Without every winning But never ever win Without a fight (And of course the "RiR" version is the ultimate.) My_Shrimp_Cot
Who can forget this piece of poetry? Grim-faced and forbidding, Their faces closed tight, An angular mass of New Yorkers Pacing in rhythm, Race the oncoming night, They chase through the streets of Manhattan. Head-first humanity, Pause at a light, Then flow through the streets of the city.
