INSANE Ticket Prices

Shirts have gone from about the same rate. At a Kiss show in '79 it'd cost you about $5 for a shirt and around $3 for the program. Now shirts are $40 + and programs are probably $30 or more.

Still relative to the normal rate of inflation, I believe it was posted here that concert tickets should be about $50-$60 or so.

well, if nothing else the price of beer at these venues makes the ticket seem like the bargain of the year.

last show i was drinking 24 OZ pabst blue ribbons at $10 a whack.

Yeah the beer prices are ASS and that cost kills me more than any ticket ever will.

That being said yeah sure tickets are expensive! They are for any major band not just Rush. I'm coming off a year where I was jobless for most of the year, yeah it'll be tighter than usual to cough up money for tickets but it's a priority for me and my entertainment dollars.

Big bands could probably flatline all the prices at $40 and then the majority would be snapped up as usual by ***t scalpers and sold for $400 on eBay. At least by pricing them a bit higher mabe this makes the tickets a bit less accessible to scalpers and more to fans? I don't know, but at least Rush is getting the cash and not some inbred mullet motherf**ker in the parking lot of the Molson Amphitheater.

And I'll confess I'm probably part of the problem when it comes to dropping record sales revenue, and I try to consciously make up for this by seeing live shows and buying merch instead especially for smaller bands.

Lawn seats are awful, the sound is terrible. And Im not paying $150 per seat, so im skipping this one. Its not even supporting a new album so it sure as hell is not worth that much money to see an old band play old songs, im sure many of which ive seen live already. What dicks for trying to charge this much.

Say what you want about pearl jam, they dont allow any venue to charge more than $50 for ANY SEAT. They rule, rush blows for doing this.

As much as I love PJ I have to disagree. I just bought tickets for 3 shows about a month ago and all were $150 a pair. That was through Ten Club so no extra fees. So a little more than $50 per ticket. Still an awesome price IMO because PJ puts on the best live show I have ever seen and every night it is completely different! common001.gif

I was hoping to take my son to his first Rush show this summer. Of course after spending $450 on PJ tickets not sure I can afford to spend around $300 or more for two Rush tickets.

Hey at least with Rush they do the same set every night so I won't be tempted to see more than one show per tour, right?

Yeah, but shirts you can get after the tour's over and they cut prices. So unless you're just totally shot in the ass to wear this year's shirt to this year's tour, it's no big deal. (Personally I like wearing older tour shirts to shows).

Yes, unfortunately that's true as well.

I just wonder when and where that ceiling is.

I mean, bands are doing things relative to other bands, but if Rush said "ALL SEATS ARE $200," would it really flatline...or would people who could still go and people who shouldn't say "I'll worry about it later"...? I mean, it's easy to say "i'd never go for that!!!" unless maybe you were staring down not going. And then maybe you'd bite.

So who knows where this ceiling it. I'm not sure there is one really....not the way things continue to go up. I think people just keep paying more, whether they can afford it or not.

Me too, but those lines are long NOT because people think like you and I. wink.gif They know people are tempted and feeling good...and just not worrying or considering that. How many people NEED a $10 beer or $100 jersey? Few of us. And yet you're in the moment and you either cave or ask, "What are my options?"

What really pisses me off about the Molson Amphitheatre is not ONLY the price of beer being $10 but they got rid of all the water fountains and force you to buy water in a bottle for $4 !!!!!!!! I read somewhere that's actually illegal, to deny someone water like that.

To beat the beer prices.. may I suggest Pre Drinking. It's something I've done for years so I only need maybe 1 or 2 drinks at the venues tops. Just leave your car at the hotel or wherever you're staying and get your drunk ass on the street car to the venue and back.

Well, with all the good news and Positive stuff from the Rush camp of late, it's good to see the fans have found something else to be mad at Rush about...Well done guys! comp26.gif

Hey, it's a reasonable thing right?

Ok...boom...tomorrow tickets are $500 a pop, regardless of where you're seated. Does it suddenly become ok to talk about something other than the positivity of them touring?

I don't think discussion about this is unreasonable. dazed025.gif

You keep going back to people losing it and totally spending irresponsibly, and that is a problem but spending on live concerts is a drop in the bucket compared with rife overspending in other areas day in and day out.

But it's true that it is what it is and like you say there is a "ceiling". That's the supply and demand economics in a nutshell. It is this expensive because that is what people are willing to pay for big rock concerts right now.

And no, I am not mad at Rush for the ticket prices. I suspect it's not just the band but a convergence of factors.

Yep. the Promoters get a very big cut also. Rush does not see all the money and i think some people think they do, not true

You're right about that. The bands don't "set" their prices. They're told what is expected and likely attainable and that's how it goes I suspect.

Also with you on the pre-puking. Don't really understand overt drunks at concerts (beyond feeling good and having fun, naturally), especially given the prices.

Nah I won't be puking... that's just lame.. I'd miss the show. I don't intend on paying $100 per ticket just so I can get drunk off $10 beers and miss the rest of the show when my passing out, puking self gets escorted outta the venue. That's just ridiculous.

Some people just can not handle the stuff. I notice this a Lot at shows with an "Older" crowd. People who never get out and they think that when they do get out, they can drink a river of beer and be fine. I always drink at show and Never, Ever do i puke, fall into or splatter anyone.

That's true. Some folks also seem hell bent on being obnoxious as well, although I'm guessing they see themselves as gleefully charming instead.

I've only gotten out of hand shit faced once, but it was a club show and it was Quiet Riot...(not to make excuses). biggrin.gif But bands I'm dying to see, getting creamed just isn't an option. I prefer remembering the night.
