Did you guys notice. . .

If anyone still needs proof that Rush shows are a "sausage-fest" (to use a term I've heard slung around on the board) - did you get a look at the bathroom lines at intermission? http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Women were walking right in, then two minutes later right back out.  No line.

The line for the guys' bathrooms was around the corner.  http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/rofl3.gif

I'm glad I didn't have to use the bathroom then.

You guys just drank too much beer. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

I used the restroom twice and both times, the mens line was a good 20 feet outside the door. However, most people didn't realize there were 2 lines - 1 on the left and 1 on the right. I got in the left line and walked right in. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif

I did notice that the ladies did not have a line. I thought it was pretty funny and even commented about it. I wish I would have taken a picture of it. It was typical for a Rush concert. lol

Man we had a GREAT time at both Champps and the show. It was nice meeting and talking to everyone at Champs. Being around so many people that share the same passion for Rush was great! I wish I could remember everyones names (I am REALLY bad with names) but I do remember the faces. Everyone was very nice and Samantha and I both really enjoyed ourselves! Thanks to tupelobarchetta (Bob, Right!) for setting up the meeting at Champps.

As far as the show, Sam and I both think is was one of the best we have seen. I haven't seen Sam enjoy a show so much. I am sure that the people sitng in front of us were tired of hearing her scream! For both of us, Marathon was the high point of the show. It was just sooooo good. Sam really liked Workin' Them Angels and Far Cry a lot. I really enjoyed Time Stand Still and I did tear up a little when they played Presto. It has always been one of my top 5 Rush songs and hearing it live was a real treat. I also really liked Faithless. That song live has much more emotion.

In all, we both really think the whole show was great. The band seemed really tight and they really looked like they were having a good time. The whole set list was also very good and really seemed to flow but Sam and I both LOVED the first set.

The best part of the night? Spending quality time with Sam at another Rush concert. With her being away at college at UGA I don't get to see her much. Rush could have had the worst night they ever had, but to me it would have been one of the best, because I was there with Sam.

When they started playing "The Camera Eye" I nearly cried. I was just overwhelmed that they were finally....FINALLY....playing this hidden gem in a live setting!!!

Well, all right, I admit it...I did, too. First time that happened was at the opening show of the R30 tour...seeing my favorite Rush tune, Red Barchetta, performed live for the 1st time...from the 3rd row, no less. Since it was the 1st show, we had no idea what they were going to play, so it made it a pretty powerful moment.

I wouldn't have thought that would happen again...especially since I knew TCE was going to be played...but I found myself getting misty again. It's just an amazing tune and sounded fantastic live. Hard to understand why they avoided playing it for so long.

One other thing: like so many of you, I'm sure, I've been to a LOT of concerts over the years. I've seen a lot of great ones (that weren't Rush) and some sucky ones. But there's nothing like going to see Rush, because there's so much more to it than just seeing a live music performance from an incredible band. It's our fellow Rush freaks & geeks that make it more special. It's that feeling of automatic kinship when you see someone wearing a Starman t-shirt. It's that instant feeling that "I have something special in common with this person", even if you have absolutely nothing else in common...you know you can sit and talk for hours about the merits of Caress of Steel as opposed to Fly By Night or how you feel about the 80's synth period. For most of us, going to see Rush isn't just about going to see Rush...it's also about spending a few hours with several thousand people who "get it" and who welcome you as a member of the non-exclusive club. It's because of these generally decent, friendly people that we're able to tolerate the posers and the ones who are only there to get hammered at a rock concert. (like the moron who was throwing lawn chairs after the show) It's the performance AND the people that make seeing Rush such a satisfying and memorable experience.

Well said, John. And those kind of sentiments are what I was talking about above. Not to mention the fact that I can't stand "Faithless"--low point of the show for me--but you love it...and who cares? So we differ on a particular tune...big deal...we love Rush and we loved the experience...it was very special for us to be able to spend time with people we love and to share that with a lot of other good people.

I hear ya! I went to the concert alone and was initially a little nervous about it. However I still enjoyed the show and felt like part of "the gang". One song that gets to me now is "Marathon", in particular the lyrics "you can do a lot in a lifetime, if you don't burn out too fast". It reminds me of a couple of people I knew who "burned out too fast", one being a childhood friend who passed before Christmas last year.

Well heres what i've got footage wise:

1 Complete Length Concert (Minus about half of the I still love you man section.) thats occasionally shaky and blurry, and has some slight to major distortion on the sound.

Another video recording, with great sound and video, but its only of Intro, SOTR, TSS, Freewill, Marathon, Subdivisions, All of MP, Drum Solo, Closer to the Heart, 2112, La Villa, and Working Man.

And a crappy (As in its only 15mb in total and sounds really bad.) 3gp audio recording on the entire show from pre-15 minutes to showtime to about when I got to the parking lot taken from inside my pocket on a HTC Evo.

And a bunch of pictures that are about 3000x4000(ish)

I'm working on getting some of it compiled, just give me some suggestions and it'll be up on different stages soon enough.

And now, the moment you've been waiting for .... PHOTOS!!

It's been 2 1/2 days since the concert, and I'm still in a buzz over it. I changed the "Best Rush Experience" on my profile to the festivities surrounding that day. I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I appreciate your comments about me putting this together. I'm deeply humbled.

I was very, very pleased with the turnout at the meetup. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for being a part of it. Even with the late scheduling of Champps, the attendance was fantastic. It was a nice blend of people from TRF, Counterparts, the Rushgirls Rock (and the Guys Who Love Them) from Facebook, and fans who showed up not realizing it was the site of a meetup. There were a lot of fans who didn't make it into the back room where we were; they stayed in the main restaurant area. As a person who builds community in his life's calling, I was thrilled to see so many people from different areas within the Rush Community coming together to eat, drink and be merry before the concert.

I also want to thank all of you for making my friend, Mary, feel a part of our special group. This was her first Rush concert, and she loved it! She asked a lot of questions about the band members, the songs and other things related to Rush. We were sitting with Cowtothesky and RushBass, and I think they were encouraging her to sign up on TRF. As I mentioned earlier in the topic, the last time Mary and I saw each other was the summer of 1981. Like so many friends separated by time, we've reconnected through Facebook. The additional bond of Rush has strengthened our renewed friendship. I was so happy to see her again and to see her enjoy the concert.

As for the music, I can't add any more to what's been said. It was a solid performance from start to finish. Of the six Rush concerts I've attended, this one was the best.

The next time Rush visits the ATL on tour, I can reserve the Champps room again for the meetup. Only this time, I'll do it as soon as the tour dates are announced.

Garden (or anyone else), what are you seeing when you click the link?

If the slideshow doesn't work, then I'll post the photos individually on the thread. But it'll have to be later today. Gotta get ready for my first assignment at 8 this morning.

OK, see now it works! LOL...

Before, it was saying that it "couldn't find anything".. so I don't know. Maybe it was just my computer being a slowpoke or whatever. But what was happening...

I'd get the "flash"-looking arrow... click the play arrow... and it would just say it couldn't find anything...

But is fine now! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

It was great to see you folks for sure - the meetup and talking to everyone pre-show was the highlight for us.

As for the show itself - I think we would've enjoyed it (in spite of our crappy seats) if not for being SURROUNDED by high, drunken fools. I got shoved and pushed and crowded by people trying to stand in the aisle (I had seat #1) and then about 10 TALL guys crowded in front of us to share joints and sing LOUDLY and act absolutely like jackasses...for the entire show.

This wasn't a bunch of cool Rush fans having a blast - this was a collection of absolute morons...passing joints, spilling beer, SCREAMING the lyrics, high-fiving every 2 seconds.

Then, during Neil's solo, about four of them got right in front of me, shooting the shit and yukking it up - I couldn't hear at ALL. I tapped one of them on the shoulder and said, "Shhhh!" with my finger on my lips. They kept right on. I tapped again, "Guys? Please? I really want to hear this." They might've taken it down one notch, but not two.

Overall the music sounded good, from what we could hear, but this was definitely the low point in my Rush concert experiences. We had really hoped we could bring Kerry, but now I'm glad we didn't. He didn't need to see all that crap.

And of course it rained buckets as we were leaving, to walk a mile back to the car.

Oh well. Better luck next time, I hope.

Aw, I'm sorry you were surrounded by morons. I'd have lost it, I think. I'm not generally one to make a fuss. . .but you don't f**k with my Rush night.

I did have one kind of funny encounter and one I sort of felt bad about. I got to my seat, and never sat in it once. The guy to my left was the kind of person that, when you see him board an airplane, you pray "oh please, don't sit in my row". . .

He was so big that part of him was pushing over on to my seat, and I couldn't fold it down to sit on it. I introduced myself, made some small talk, and tried to reference the seat situation in very vague terms. He didn't get the hint, and there's no nice way to ask someone "hey, can you push your gut out of the way some so I can sit down?" So I remained standing and chatted with the people behind me. No big deal - I planned to stand for the whole show anyway and once Big Guy was on his feet, it wasn't a problem. We had plenty of room.

The part I felt kind of bad about was the kid in front of me. He was probably around seven, and immediately the show started his mom picked him up and stood him on his seat. It was a teeny bit annoying, but I could move a little and see around him, and I figured he'd tire after a few songs and sit back down.

But then he put his arms up and laced his fingers together behind his neck, so that his elbows jutted out on either side of his head and TOTALLY blocked my view. I waited a bit to see if he'd put them back down, but he didn't. SO I tapped mom on the shoulder and tried to explain over the music what the problem was. She was REALLY nice about it and got her son down. (Actually, I didn't mind him standing - it was the arms that were the problem. But it was hard to yell loudly enough to explain). Little tyke was asleep midway through the second set.

Even better - when we got our change back, we had three twenties, a one, and a ten (my bank card NEVER leaves my sight). I don't really think the waiter, as overwhelmed as he was, was trying for a setup there, but still. I sent my husband back to the bar with a tenner and told him to get some ones. The waiter was fine, especially given that he was the only one working the section and we were all moving all over the place and people sitting at the same tables weren't ordering together, etc. Still, no way was he getting a 50% tip! (We still tipped slightly over 20%, though).

I am all about leaving a good waiter a tip. This reminds me of last Friday night. I went out to one of the nicer restaurants in town. Total bill for the 2 of us was about $75.00. I paid cash, leaving a $100 bill. We waited for our change and the waiter never brought it back to us. So, it was pretty awkward when I had to ask the waiter to bring the change. I left $15 tip. I considered leaving a big fat '0.00' due to his assumption that I was leaving a 33% tip.

This bothered me so much that I am not sure I will go back there, even though the food was amazing.

Ed and I had a BLAST at the meet-up, and Garden Dancer (Jennifer) and her husband Steve and I enjoyed ourselves TREMENDOUSLY at the concert.

I had never been to the Atlanta area before, and it was my first time meeting many of you. All of you were so gracious, and your enthusiasm for Rush certainly showed. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/2.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/trink39.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/cheer.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/common001.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/applaudit.gif

I now have many JOYFUL memories of that day, that I will cherish forever!!!! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/heart.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/heart.gif
