Ok, these are not all the trilogies in existence, obviously, but this should cover most of the choices people would make, and there is an "other" category for those who truly think Ace Ventura or Scooby-Doo or something more obscure really is the best trilogy of all time.

Also, some movies like Indiana Jones obviously had a 4th many years later, and some had a far more obscure 4th movie (anyone actually ever see Superman IV?), but most were only 3 movies.

Actually, I've seen Superman IV: The Quest for Peace at least twice, including once in the theater, but have never seen all of Superman III with Richard Pryor.

Superman IV had a good premise, but was lame. They spent almost nothing on SFX, and even borrowed footage from the first Superman in parts. sad.gif The first two Superman movies was the shiznit, though! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

You can't make a series a trilogy because you didn't like the ones that came after the third. sarcasm.gif

Like mentioned other times, I would have said The Godfathers and I really should because I LOVE those movies, sadly the third one doesn't hold up to the others. So I am going to vote Lord of The Rings, not because I favour them personaly over the others but because they all hold up VERY well for the trilogy. Dollars is close second but by like 1/8 of an inch.

If Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale decide to do a third Batman film, and if it's anywhere near as good as the first two, you'll be looking at one of the very best trilogies ever.

It's funny to think of that as a trilogy since there were a bunch of other Batman movies prior to that, but it would be three in a new series.

Sorry, I know my poll wasn't perfect with some series that did have a 4th that came later on, but I did the best I could. smile.gif

Nolan's Batman films are so good, they have made Tim Burton's and Joel Schumacher's films irrelevant.

And even if that weren't the case, the Nolan films are, as you suggested, part of a new series. Nolan chose realism, substance and character development over style, setting his films a mile apart from the over-stylized production of the four '90s films (Burton's familiar goth look and Schumacher's campy and cartoonish color schemes).

Godfather 1 and 2 were great 3 not so much
Raiders 1 and 3 very good,2 was one of the worst acted major movies ever.

Agree on Raiders. Whatshername SCREAMED her head off every 30 seconds and completely ruined the movie.

Yeah, Kate Capshaw and the kid were annoying, but I loved the dark subject matter of "Temple Of Doom," though the first and third Indy films are still superior.

Why LOTR is so popular I'll never understand.  There are some good movies in there that are tainted by their 3rd installment.  A separate thread (ala "Which is the shittiest 3rd installment?" ) could even be made.

well, there is Poltergeist I (1982), II (1986), and III (1988).

I used to like all three. Nowadays, the only one I care to watch is the original one.

I'm sure some of you might remember my love for "Halloween III."

I know I am pretty much alone with that love but hey I'm glad they took a break from Michael Myers.

So my other favorite Trilogy is:

HALLOWEEN

HALLOWEEN II

HALLOWEEN III SEASON OF THE WITCH

Nothing can touch the first "Poltergeist" by the way.

That movie will outlast the test of time!

"Paranormal Activity?" Please. Although I did catch the alternate ending on the blu-ray version the other night and I thought it was much better than the theatrical version!

BOO!

DOH! ohmy.gif

How could that slip our minds? Especially with Ripley in "Avatar!" wink.gif

Damn, I actually loved "Alien 3" when they all had to shave their heads.

Lots of folks hated that movie.

I'm an "Alien" purist and love the first one the most.

"Aliens" is great, but Cameron turned it into a shoot 'em up cockbuster flick.

It worked for profit purposes, but nothing can touch the first one.

I am surely from a different demographic.

I hated the "Lard Of The Rings" Trilogy.

Peter Jackson single handedly ruined those incredible books.

Glad to see that the Harry Potty movies are not a factor.

I could not get into those LOTR Films! The adaptation was excellent but I just couldn't buy what Jackson was selling.

I liked Temple of Doom more than the third one (never really got all the hate for it), and I always liked Kate Capshaw in that, but that's probably cause I had a wicked crush on her.

Really, all Capshaw did in Temple of Doom was whine and shriek. I found Short-Round much more tolerable than her.
