What is this mysterious "Star Wars" you all are speaking of?

Oh, you haven't heard of it? It's glorious sci-fi adventure. There's a spaceship called the Rocinante, and it's captain is James T. Kirk. There's a big furry Bigfoot-looking guy called Wookie, and a little robot named Twiki who looks like Mr. Roboto and says "bidi-bidi-bidi" a lot. The bad guy is the evil Dark Helmet, and the whole universe is blown up at the end when Stimpy presses the Memory Eraser button, despite stern warnings that he shouldn't press the big shiny candy-like button.

It's on Blu-Ray. Check it out when you get a chance.

My daughter is really into Star Wars right now (me and the wife have always been big nerds for the original trilogy, it was bound to happen) and we watched Episode I and II last night. She liked them, but it only reinforced my opinion that II is one of the most boring movies of all time. It's really a chore for me to stay awake during most of it. Only Yoda doing barrel rolls livens it up a bit. Phantom Menace was better than I remembered though.

The animated Clone Wars series from 2003 is awesome. I wish it had lasted longer. The new CGI one is good too and brings back a lot of the fun that is sorely lacking in the prequels. Season 3 starts Friday!

Family Guy Something Something Dark Side was a hoot! biggrin.gif

Season 3 of Star Wars - The Clone Wars is 2 episodes in and off to a fun start. I wish they'd slow the lightsaber fights down some. The herky-jerky animation is annoying as hells.

SW experts...  pls help me, so they say at the end of III, "wipe the memory of the protocol droid" - or something of that like, regarding c3po.  now, really, was that on purpose to imply that r2d2's memory would NOT be wiped?  can that be, could r2d2 have known so much going into IV-V-VI?  also, where did the levitating jets go?  cmon!

This is how i've always seen it when it comes to why C3PO's memory was wiped and why R2's wasn't:

Basically, C3PO's memory was wiped so he wouldn't reveal anything about Luke and Leia still being alive. Also, not to reveal who there father really was. 3PO is an annoying blabbermouth who no doubt would've told everyone about it and revealed the secret that the line of Jedi's did not die and that Luke and Leia were still alive and were the last hope to bring peace back to the galaxy.

R2-D2's memory was not wiped because he didn't speak english or another universally known language. He spoke in a random computer type of language with beeps and squiles and whatnot. Not many, except for protocol droids like C3PO, would be able to understand what R2 was saying. When he did speak about stuff from the first 3 episodes he would get something like "what are you talking about?" from 3PO. So R2 keeping his memory was not a risk at all as it would've been with 3PO.

As to what happen to R2-D2's levitating jets, that has to do simply with age. By the time Episode 4 came around he had been around for some 25 years or so. Without proper matainence it more than likely rusted away and it became impossible for him to do that anymore.

I had a few beers with R2 not long ago and this is what he told me. In binary of course.

Did he say it in the same rhythm that Geddy sings it in?

What are all of you guys' favorite Star Wars score? I personally like Return Of The Jedi's score the best.

Out now, for fans of this film:

http://www.amazon.com/Making-Star-Wars-Emp...6805079&sr=1-16

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51nqSjmlGdL._SS500_.jpg

I have this same book for the first film and it's amazing in its detail of how the film was made. As Empire is my favorite of the lot, I can only imagine how much I'll enjoy this one as well. (I presume there will also be one for Jedi at this point).

You can pick up the first one on the cheap, either new or used (from $20):

From a friend of mine (re: Empire book above):

This thing is just as mind-blowing as the Star Wars book John, and maybe even better. I compared them and it's exactly the same length/# of pages. I've scanned through it and it's loaded with artwork, pages of notes, photos from the set...and best of all, right in the middle is a transcript of an audio tape recording from the set on the day they shot Han's carbon-freezing. They got Kershner to wear a cordless mike all day and tape recorded the goings-on. The transcription in the book goes on for 16 pages and includes Kershner moderating a spat between Fisher and Ford.
