sfuentes
Which Rush song has the best lyrics? For me, I have to say Mission. I can't help put say the lyrics along with the song. The music accompanies the lyrics so well, I can barely describe how it makes me feel.
Indica
Man it's hard to just pick one. So I will name a couple of the ones that touches me the most. "Losing it" is one that stands out to me for some reason. "Witch Hunt" is another one that has a powerful meaning, to be honest, musically it's not one of my favorites by any means, but the lyrics make up for it. The Hold your fire cd seems to be one of the cd's that a lot of people say is their least favorite, but as far as lyrics go, I think it's one of the best Rush CD's. That being said, "Open Secrets" stands out to me. And one last pick for me, see I told you it's hard just to pick one, kind of like a lays potato chip..... "Hand over Fist" is a pretty damn cool tune as far as lyrics. Take a walk outside myself In some exotic land Greet a passing stranger Feel the strength in his hand Feel the world expand I feel my spirit resist But I open up my fist Lay hand over hand over Hand over fist
Red Porschetta
Dreamline and Subdivisions are my favorites
Pyre_89
I would have to say YYZ. Really though, it would be 2112. I love the meaning behind it, and I love the song. It's awesome. Subdivisions is also really cool
DoubleAgent420
It's hard to say...... probably Bravado. Or The Pass.
Pratt Boy
The Pass is a very emotional song. Between the Wheels is a powerful song. I think that Hold Your Fire and Grace Under Pressure are their top 2 best lyrical albums.

GhostGirl
I tend to pick out just a few lines sometimes...that express something so perfectly, or lyrics that fit so well together... This always makes me think of the way David Gilmour makes a guitar sing (yes, I know it's a Rush song, but...) See how it sings like a sad heart And joyously screams out its pain Sounds that build high like a mountain Or notes that fall gently like rain. And lyrically this one just nails it: Each of us A cell of awareness Imperfect and incomplete Genetic blends With uncertain ends On a fortune hunt That's far too fleet... I love that my brilliant, sophisticated drummer dude sometimes uses a child-like expression to illustrate a point. How many of us haven't wanted to just make the bad stuff go away? if I could wave my magic wand I'd make everything all right I could go on and on, but my most favoritest song to sing along with (right now, anyway) is Totem. It's just FUN, no other way to put it. I've got twelve disciples and a Buddha smile The Garden of Allah, Viking Valhalla A miracle once in a while I've got a pantheon of animals in a pagan soul Vishnu and Gaia - Aztec and Maya Dance around my totem pole I believe in what I see I believe in what I hear I believe that what I'm feeling Changes how the world appears

hemispherical
Count me in as part of the group for Hold Your Fire as having the most lyrical impact for a Rush album. My favorite song lyrics have probably changed a hundred times over the past 25 years or so. Right now I'm really enjoying Farewell to Kings. Not sure if that reflects my current frustration with the political climate, or what. Enjoy reading the posts! Pickle

It is very poetic. I think it is one of Neil's more artistic statements. If only I knew what message he was trying to convey.
Snowdog
The Analog Kid is so vivid to me. I can see the boy laying in the grass, I can see the fawn eyed girl, I can see the hawk soaring by as the boy pulls down his cap and covers his eyes. Tom Sawyer
Hey, yeah, a welcome to Hyperspace! "Freeze" The city crouches, steaming In the early morning half light The sun is still a rumor And the night is still a threat Slipping through the dark streets And the echoes and the shadows Something stirs behind me And my palms begin to sweat Sometimes I freeze...until the light comes Sometimes I fly...into the night Sometimes I fight...against the darkness Sometimes I'm wrong...sometimes I'm right Coiled for the spring Or caught like a creature in the headlights Into a desperate panic Or a tempest of blind fury Like a cornered beast Or a conquering hero The menace threatens, closing And I'm frozen in the shadows I'm not prepared to run away And I'm not prepared to fight I can't stand to reason Or surrender to a reflex I will trust my instincts Or surrender to my fright Sometimes we freeze...until the light comes Sometimes we're wrong...and sometimes we're right Sometimes we fight...against the darkness Sometimes we fly...into the night Blood running cold Mind going down into a dark night Of a desperate panic Or a tempest of blind fury Like a cornered beast Or a conquering hero Sometimes I freeze Sometimes I fight Sometimes I fly Into the night AWESOME Coming in second... "Turn The Page" Nothing can survive in a vacuum No one can exists all alone We pretend things only happen to strangers We've all got problems of our own It's enough to learn to share our pleasures We can't soothe pain with sympathy All that we can do is be reminded We shake our heads at the tragedy Every day we're standing in a time capsule Racing down a river from the past Every day we're standing in a wind tunnel Facing down the future coming fast Looking at the long range forecast Catching all the names in the news Checking out the state of the nation Learning the environmental blues Truth is after all a moving target Hairs to split, and pieces that don't fit How can anybody be enlightened? Truth is after all so poorly lit It's just the age It's just a stage We disengage We turn the page Every day we're standing in a time capsule (It's just a stage) We disengage, we turn the page Racing down the river running fast Every day we're standing in a wind tunnel (It's just a stage) We disengage, we turn the page Facing down the future coming fast "yeah, babe"!! Arndrake
QUOTE (mystic steve @ Mar 19 2005, 06:29 PM)QUOTE The Pass is a very emotional song I get goose bumps everytime i hear it Me too, for personal reasons. Even though the songs of Presto are panned by many, including the band itself (with the exception of The Pass), I think the lyrics are wonderful. War Paint has a great message regarding peoples' attempt to put a false face forward to others. Ultimately we fail. "To the beautiful and the wise, the mirror always lies." Territories has a message that is unfortunately more prevalent today, especially with American tendencies to flex political and military muscle in the name of patriotism and counterterrorism. "The bosses get talking so tough And if that wasn't evil enough We get the drunken and passionate pride Of the citizens along for the ride" I could come up with so many others. Such great messages in so many songs.
Cygnus_X1
I have always loved the thinking behind the epics, mainly 2112 and Hemispheres. However i do regard the lyrics to 'Freeweill' highly.
