this may be a retread-flame me if it is.

has anyone made the ultimate rush mix CD? what is it? this is tough because they are an 'album' band, but is there an ultimate mix out there? what would your song line up be? this is NOT a greatest hits CD but rather a good mix. what songs go well together etc...

I was never much for "mix" cd's but these are some great ideas I might have to try.

Not really a direct answer to your topic, but I offer this. With the advent of the internet and whatnot it has become pretty easy to learn about a bands set-list for an upcoming tour. Either just before tour breaks or definitely as reviews come in after opening night. Since Rush usually varies their set-lists little during a tour, I used to make it a habit to make my own compilation CD(s) comprised of said set-list as a warmup to upcoming Rush shows. Worked for awhile! In a way it was cool, knowing pretty much what was going to be played. After a few years though, I decided being surprised is better! Just an idea!

I also made myself a 67 minute long Medley of several tunes ranging from '75 - '82. I think it rocks as it blends and/or cuts from one song into another with no breaks, and borrows some of how the boys have stitched songs together on stage. It also has some sound effects in there as well.

I'd share it with everyone, but the file is HUGE. RR and Launch have a copy. I hope they have enjoyed it.

2112 Overture

La Villa Strangiato

2112 - Interlude I

Xanadu

Cygnus X-I Book II, Hemispheres: Prelude

Cinderella Man

Vital Signs

Bytor And The Snow Dog

The Camera Eye

2112 - Interlude II

Tom Sawyer

The Analog Kid

YYZ

Cygnus X-I

Natural Science

2112 - Finale

Yeah thats kinda what I did as soon as I got home from the R30 tour! Every concert I go to, I end up making a playlist comprising of all the songs played at the concert. Keeps me remembering wink.gif

I blasted a bunch of tunes into a huge 'house mix' thing that I call Freak Jam. Combining Rush songs with Zeppelin, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Steely Dan, Van Halen, Madonna and Jimi Hendrix. It's quite the production, unfortunately I can't share it because I sold the song to a club owner/DJ in St. Louis. It's a big hit in his clubs from what I've heard.

I made 2 CDs worth. The first is with short(er) songs, the second with long songs.

The first CD:

The Analog Kid

Tom Sawyer

Finding My Way

Anthem

Subdivisions

The Big Money

Red Barchetta

A Farewell to Kings

Circumstances

The Trees

Lessons

By-Tor and the Snow Dog

Closer to the Heart

The Spirit of Radio

Limelight

Disc two contains:

Cygnus part one

Cygnus part two

2112

Natural Science

The Camera Eye

La Villa Strangiato

Pretty good mix if I do say so myself.

To get friends of mine into the band for the upcoming R30 show, I made them a 3 CD set called Rush - Triple Play. Here is the playlist.
