plowe70
I'm sure there is simple answer to this question. Why is Prince By-Tor a knight of darkness, centurion of evil and devil's prince in By-Tor and the Snow Dog, but in The Necromancer he is the champion and battler for freedom fighting to destroy the Necromancer? Digital Man
Different levels of evil? By-Tor is more evil than Snowdog, so By-Tor is the bad guy. Necromancer is more evil than By-Tor so By-tor is the good guy. That is my thought. A friend asked me this about 20 years ago and I gave him the same answer. Fridge
QUOTE (plowe70 @ May 6 2009, 04:16 PM) I'm sure there is simple answer to this question. Why is Prince By-Tor a knight of darkness, centurion of evil and devil's prince in By-Tor and the Snow Dog, but in The Necromancer he is the champion and battler for freedom fighting to destroy the Necromancer? GeddysMullet
Maybe the Snow Dog taught him a lesson and he renounced his evil ways. Or maybe King By-Tor had two sons, and one was good and one was evil! This goes right along with my periodic musings about the mysteries of the white-haired uncle in Red Barchetta. How did he manage to keep his country place a secret for 50 years? Why doesn't he ride along when his nephew drives the car? Why does no one ever notice that both the uncle and the nephew disappear on Sundays? There is virtually limitless entertainment in trying to establish logic in the world of Rush lyrics.
GeddyRulz
Someone asked Geddy this question during a call-in radio show, a couple decades ago. He didn't really have an answer, other than that By-Tor had "seen the light." According to the Rush FAQ: QUOTE When asked about this on "Rockline," Geddy said something along the lines of, "He saw the light." Neil commented, "I guess he's like all of us - sometimes good, and sometimes he's bad!" in the December 1985 Backstage Club newsletter.

I have no idea what you are referring to. No worries. Just ties into a frickin' hissy fit I was having in another thread, ironically quoting lyrics from By-Tor (Counterparts thread). Didn't mean to hijack the thread with my whining.
yaoi_myantidrug
Enter the Champion. Prince By-Tor appears to battle for freedom from chains of long years. The spell has been broken...the Dark Lands are bright, the Wraith of the Necromancer soars away...in the night. I always took that to mean he was evil cuz he was under the Necromancers spell
